Check out this vid.

The flood stage for spring river in 1996 got up to 16ft, and took 2 lives. This past week they were reporting an expected 18ft above flood stage........it reatched 25ft above flood stage, and the riverside areas of Hardy Arkansas were being evacuated. news footage showed propanetanks, and automobiles floating down river.

This is the worst flooding I have ever seen hit this close to home. Blackriver, springriver, current river, all the local waterways are at their bounds.  My best wishes goes out to all those effected by the storms, tornados, and rising waters that are converging on arkansas rescently.

Were any of the populated areas flooded out, or was it kept within the usual flood plain of the river?

I could see that happening the way Batesville sits right on the river, that little valley as you come down the hill from the airport was probably flooded all the way over to Townsends.

I was detoured when I was leaving Pocahontis this week.. I was going to drop by and visit Gittinit, but I thought better wait till the water goes down..

I can tell you it was one lake from the Current river all the way to the black river in town. :yikes:

Brenjen

We need the rain but I wish it would space itself out instead of dumping the entire years worth in a few days.

that last pic i posted  has a  LARGE  parking area  for tow rigs  and a wide  boat ramp so  you can launch about 3 boats at a time,  but its all under about 8 feet of water,  on the other side of the river is a HUGE sand/gravel bar where all the girls  lay out in the summer  :disturbed:

Have you ever lived in Arkansas. There is a saying around here that stands verry true. "If you don't like the weather, stick around it will change" It would be true for just about anywhere, but the weather in Arkansas seems to change from one extreme to the other in no time.

I sent my kids to school in shorts one morning and by that afternoon it was pooring ice cold rain, and sleet, the next day it was shorts again. Heck they wore shorts one day, and it snowed the next, it is just unpredictable, as could be.

I floated the Buffalo this weekend, and I saw dead tree trunks parked in the tops of live, full grown trees. The water is usually ~2 - 4 feet deep in most places, but when the flood came, it hit 26 ft. You wouldn't believe the amount of shoes, gloves, clothes, etc. that have washed up on the banks that people have lost on their float trips.  :conf:

I wish I had pics, but the camera got wet and died on me.
