I just bought a Winchester 1300 12 gauge and I think it needs to be sported up a bit. I am not very familiar with shotguns or the shotgun aftermarket though. I know most people who have tactical shotguns usually start with a police or defender type with shorter barrel, but I would like to do it anyway. I have a 28" vented sight barrel and a shorter "deer slug" barrel that I assume will be worthless unless I am shooting slugs, which will practically never happen. I want to use this gun recreationally and not just devote it to "home defense."

Can anybody recommend some brands or products for the Winchester 1300? I am looking for a new stock, extended magazine, shell holder, foregrip, and flashlight.
Thanks :pirate:

use the deer slug  barrel (aka  shorter  and  open choke,  aka  same as the 28 inch barrel  if you use  Kyota's tool )for home defense,  use the  28inch barrel  for  hunting

Can you explain a little bit about chokes? Can I cut down the deer slug barrel and shoot shot loads fairly easily since it has an open choke?

the slug barrel will be easier to cut down without loss of performance,
a choke restricts the load before it exits the barrel there is full, modified and another, this helps the shotgun pattern better, please dont shoot slugs out of a full choke barrel lol
without a choke on a 18" barrel (what i have) the pattern is extremely wide and at about 20 yards you may get some number seven shot on a man sized target but its almost unlikely i would keep the choked barrel and modify a non choked barrel

My shotgun stands 60 inches tall, I run sabots through it, it is acurate as hell and the sound a sabot slug makes travelling through the air is unforgetable, that is until it hits you.

you can  shoot  shot  thru the deer slug  barrel,  what happens  is the "open choke" of the deer slug brrl lets the shot spread quick,   so  say your  in a room  and  3 guys are standing against a wall 20 feet away  the slug barrel  will  cover all 3 with shot

the  full choke  sport (28 inch) barrel  would hit  whoever you are aiming at

i have a  12 guage Marlin "Goose gun"  with a 3 1/2 inch chamber for Magnum shells  and a 36 inch barrel with full choke,  if i can see the squirrel  200 yards away i can  blow it to peices

at 100 yards  i can  blow a 6 inch hole thru a 2 inch thick  slab of wood

That is a nice one. How does it shoot with the short barrel? I would imagine it would have very limited range and a lot of kick.

Oh and shooting slugs is just bad ass in my opion but its going to kill your shoulder, even 3" turkey loads out of mine is real rough after about 5 or 6 shots

It shoots fine it does kick hard, range is maybe 10-15 yards at best

Another option is to go with a slighter load.  You sacrifice a little shot weight, but for home defense, you don't want slugs or even buckshot, as it will go through your walls and end up in your neighbor's house.  Good, heavy BB shot  or bird shot works fine, and a load can have a lot less recoil.

When you get a shorter stock and a shorter barrel, felt recoil is going to more than double.

Oh, also get one of those fiber optic sights for the barrel.  Worth every penny(actually pretty inexpensive)

Trunkz

depending on how large or small your house is you could get some breaching rounds for hd you know the powdered lead ones that they use on locks and hinges

79coyotefrg

i say make your own home defense  rounds  with rock salt

check legality of rocksalt.... easy way to get sued

Rocksurfer

You never want to use anything less than lethal, leaves one less person to sue you. This is a sad but true statement.

try  some 3 inch Nitro mags :yikes:  even in my Heavy :moon: "Goose Gun"  those Nitro mags  will kick your butt,  then stomp you a couple times  while your down
but  you can blow the wall of a house  out  with them

Huhwhye

Get a Knoxx Spec Ops stock, they make a big difference in recoil.

I am not sure about the legality of cutting a barrel.  Something tells me it not legal in all states.  And replacement barrels are expensive.  Because of that I bought 2 different Remington 870's.  One for hunting w/ a 28" barrel and one for home defense/camping with an 18".

I went and shot it yesterday and decided I am just gonna leave it alone. I am very pleased with the way it shoots. I will probably just buy a new or used Remington or Mossberg to sport up. The Remington Desert Recon TAC is calling my name.

We went shooting the other day. It was a blast :gap:
