Never did introduce myself...
« on: Mar 11, 2008, 07:35:47 AM »
I never did introduce myself, figured I may as well do that since I have just been mostly lurking since I signed up.  I am under the same SN on a few other board, pirate, etc. My name is Heath, I am from Massachusetts. I wheeled a '98 taco for a couple years, then picked up an '85 4runner about 3 years ago and have been wheeling and working on it ever since.

Started as:
3" AAL, 31" AT's

It got wheeled a lot in every stage. It found it's way onto chevy springs, rears up front, TG x-member, locked f&r, eventually got 4.7's and 34" TSL's...newer 22r converted to efi:

Then 36's, f-150 rears, budbuilt lifted x member...

38's, 5.29's

13.5" bob:

and now after a couple rolls I am cutting it up, making more changes, and caging it.  :disturbed:

Currently looking something like this (crappy cell pic):

Thanks for the welcome.  :)

That pic is old florida rd here in MA. It isn't that hard a trail, just a couple larger obstacles with random rocks scattered in between.

Plans in the works:

-chop the body
-flat belly (cut floor obviously)
-dual clocked cases
-minor boatsides
-full cage
-suspension seats
-harnesses
-traction bar
-rotate pinion
-shave drain plugs f&r
-inboard rear springs
-possibly lower front depending on how low the rear ends up
-relocate gas tank
-back to 4.10's (chipped a 5.29, since it is trailered, don't want to buy a new one)

Welcome to Marlin!!! Gotta rep for the second gens, (well in your Runners case 1st!) Alright, 80's Toyotas rule in General! especially 85's you lucky dog. Don't hack up the poor thing to where it's unrecognizable as a Runner though!
By the time I get the money for an SAS I'll be 65 at this rate!

...tooooo late, but now I can pretend I am a 2nd gen pickup if I want!

Really the only good thing about the '85's is the raise in the frame up front. I didn't have to find a front axle, but I did put in a wider rear and had to buy a steering box, so it sort of evens out.

Are those 34x10.50 LTBs? Or 34x9.50 TSLs? How did you like those for wheeling? I have been considering these, and cannot find much info on them (especially the LTBs). Thanks, and welcome from WY!

They are 34x9.5" TSLs. I liked them, I had no real complaints about them performance-wise other than the fact that I eventually ended up on too many obstacles that were a bit too big for me and I would get hung up on the belly. I put in a raised cross member and went to 36's at that point.
