Yeah, when I got the truck, the wire was completly snapped off. I need to re-wrap it, it is starting to come undone. I tried to create a more gradual curve with it so the wire would not break again.

jrock

can you buy a new plug with a little stub of wire?

I do not know. I went to a junkyard and went thru a few wiring harnesses in trucks until I found a plug with the wire still attached. I also figured out that you can take apart the plug and replace the wire and put the plug back together, but it is very difficult to not break it. I tried it and broke it, so I just put the "new" one on from the junkyard.

The one coming out of the radiator tube deal where the thermostat goes. I think it was an 85 only thing, I had a hard time finding one. I broke the metal piece the wire attaches to, and NAPA didn't have a new one in stock, so I just said forget it, I have a used one all ready to go on.

jimbo74

is it the square one? if you can get a better pic, i will see if i have it... i might... cheap :)

That was an easy fix on mine.  What I did was, I took it out, and pulled the plug apart and got the metal tab out.  Have patience, you will need a small pick to release the plastic tab holding it in.

Here's how to fix!

Slightly drill out the rubber grommet to a larger size, and place on wire
place heat shrink on wire (don't heat yet~make sure its long enough to stick out of grommet)
strip wire
solder wire to metal tab
slide heat shrink down over the soldered connection and shrink
push connector into the plastic holder
slide grommet over heat shrink and into the plastic holder
put back onto t-stat housing

I tried to look for pics of what it looks like after it was done, but I guess I didn't get a pic of it.  The heat shrink helps stiffen the wire as it comes out of the grommet.  But allows it to bend with out a sharp bend to it.
Another thing I did was got a spare harness, because I spliced in a longer lead on the wires that goes from the harness body in the efi to the coil.  Cause mine was fried, from the exhaust manifold, even through the factory heat shield on the wiring.  I routed mine up along the firewall around behind the brake booster to the coil.  In my pic you can see the white plastic loom, so you can see how I routed it.

you can buy the new pins for the connector at the stealership and pop the connector apart and solderand heat shrink the wires to the new pins and put them back in the connector. good as new..
