Welded Diff??

i just welded up a stock 4.10 i had laying around. i mig welded the spider gears together in every possible spot with a few passes and also welded the spider gears to the center pin.  i didnt want to bother with welding the cast carrier, as this is only a temporary thing for my truck. i had to take out my 5.29 for some repairs.  im not going to even wheel on it hard because i cant use 4wd. actually now that i think about it that means ill probably beat on it harder...    it seems to work good though. i tested it out driving in the rain all day. its fun sliding sideways around corners

I welded my rear last Feb. I only welded the spiders to the side gears. Like you said, with multiple passes. I built up enough that the gears would have no chance of running over the weld, if it broke loose. I have been working out of it pulling a small trailer regularly, and even pulled a backhoe on a trailer about 40 miles round trip, and it is still working tits! by the way, I'm on 36s.

hey i am a little south in woodburn and i have welded a few diffs and can set the back lash for ya if you still need it! you dont need to take it out of the carrier just pop the diff out and weld the spiders up with a 1/4" piece of steel in the windows heat before welding and clean!

It just doesn't seem like I would have room to get my mig gun in there with out taking it apart, maybe with a stick welder I could get in there. Were you located Tanner?

yeah it wasnt easy getting a mig gun in there. mine looked just like this pics above. hasnt broken yet

its really not that hard to weld it. But me personally would put a piece of steel in there cause i have broke rears that were welded like the one above. Crank the welder up and go for it you really cant mess it up!
