I have a question on those axle,

since the portal boxes have 2 gear automaticly when when one gear goes in a direction the other goes in in the oposit direction.
So here is my question, since the 2nd gear goes in the other direction how do you go foward when you're not in reverse ???
is the pinion on the other side of the gear ? or do you have a special t-case that goes in reverse ?

I'm realy interested in these portal axles and they drop on the right side.
Please give me a clue  :help: :help: :dunno: :dunno:

The axles are out of a 303C that was made by Volvo for the Swiss military and maybe some others. The axles are getting hard to find but there are after-market parts coming out every day. A good price is less than $4000 for the pair. The ring gear is on the opposite side so the wheels turn the right way. They are very similar to Toyota axles in ring gear and birfield size.  I am building this rig for myself and hope to have it done for the next Hammer season.

Being that air is compressible I am hoping its ride will be pretty good. Its will also have fox air shocks for dampening and some spring rate.

Are those just regular industrial air struts or are they built specifically for suspension? :dunno:

Its just an industrial air cylinder that I have modified to work as my suspension.

From what i have seen so far, is the rear axle portal or not?  It doesn't look portal in the pictures.  the braces you put on there are killer though.  It's looking really nice.

The portals bolt on to the ends of the tubes. If you look in the pic of the angled shot of the braced axle, in the left corner you can see the portal box sitting on the ground.

I like it!  I've long been thinking about ditching the leafs in favor of an air spring/swingarm setup in the rear, kinda for the same leveling effect as in your pic.  Lookin good
