so drove it to Moab from phoenix and its worked great.. about 900 miles round trip....engine runs great but no power! I have 5.29 gears with the 37" tires and it can not get up hill faster than a U-haul truck loaded down. Never used 5th gear! I am a bit fustrated as it ran great with the 33" tires but this is just too much for it! Who has the best engine swap out there? I would like to tow motorcycles with it in the mountains.... maybe a chevy 350? i put one in a 1976 land cruser and it rocked but I am not sure with this light dudy drive train on the highway how it will work...any ideas?

ok so I want to pull 2-4 motorcycles on a small trailer and the associated gear. I am at 7000 ft elevation and I actually can not get over 40 mph going up a hill and there are mountain passes everywhere! I like the 5.29s and the dual cases but I need  some power! Dont get me wrong i love the toyota motor but its always at 4000 rpms.... i really dont want a motor swap but if i have too i want to make sure i can go the speed limit with a load up the mountain passes over 10000 feet......now what do you think????? :conf:

ok so i still have the 22RE in it just did not feel like doing all that work on an engine swap! So after fixing the loping with the new TPS i decided to bounce it around in the yard abit and now it starts ever time but does not rev up. i was sure it was the TPS again so i ordered a new one from toyota as the others were all used. I was sure this was it and nope>>>> it does the same thing: starts right up but when you give it gas it hesitates and spits out black smoke. so then i pulled the codes and it said Nmber 2 a bad air flow sensor or ECU so i switched both of these comonents with ---again used ones but that were off a runnning vehicle and nada.... so she just sits here mocking me ....this is a tough project....any thoughts guys?

hmm thats a real lack of power, my little 22r can cruise in 5th on the highway with 37s and stock tcase and diffs, i go to 4th on hills and 3rd on steep hills.

ya its slow - but living at 7000 ft does that too. i think i just found what i was looking for.... a small pool of oil on top of the water pump. looks like a blown head gasket. i think that will cause my rich exhaust condition and lack of power????? there is no water in my oil though? the oil is definately not coming from the valve cover....shoot....

i am pretty sure that the head gasket is the culpurate as it starts and runs but just blows black smoke. i am going to order a new haedgasket from toyota and add this teardown to the page.....
