Vibrations
« on: Feb 16, 2008, 08:41:39 AM »
I just installed a new g54 from marlin and it only has 600 miles on it, and when i reach about 65 mph i get a nasty vibration in the cab and the bed of the truck rattles a lot to, i was wondering if this was a tranny problem or something to do with the drive shaft because i removed it and put it back after the tranny swap.

Did it vibrate right after you installed the tranny or did it just start?

Yeah, that's def something in the drivetrain or tires.  The way to check it of course is whether it does it a little bit say, at 50mph and gets worse until it starts vibrating everything.  If it grows worse with speed, then it's something like tires or a driveshaft.  If it's constant, it gets trickier.

Mine did that for a couple of weeks.  Turns out I had a tire that was separating on me and nearly blew out when my mechanic saw it(if it'd blown out at 65-70mph, given my high CG, it would have been ugly).  The thing was that it wasn't noticeable unless the tire was in just the right position.

my ford ranger has a certain spot right at the speed limit where it gets nasty vibration... if i go faster, its fine, slower its fine... jsut right at 65 if shakes wierd... its drivetrain or tires....
