well i have had this 86 4runner for a year and 4 months now and it has come a long way.  so i figured i would post up some pics of my progress.  when i got it the motor was blown up and the head was already off, the tranny was shot! and almost everything else had gone to crap as well. so here are some pics...

before..

After the the engine compartment was done

i drove it around like this until i got my rear lift on, ha ha i got so many funny looks, i wonder why?

Now this is what it looks like now

yeah i put a piece of 1/8 in steel in there and then welded it up. it was to big of a gap to fill just by itself.

Looks good, I like the soft top it should save some weight too

who makes that soft top?

This one that i have is made by can-back. its pretty sweet, it uses all the factory mounting holes and it has its own frame that just bolts on that the canvas snaps to, except the very back where you have to double sticky tape an aluminum strip with snaps on the tail gate.

nice work. your boss lets you use the shop whenever you want or do you own it?

well i got my rear shocks done this last week.  I had already built some mounts and mounted my shocks but it ended up ripping my frame out. lol.  my mount and welds held up but it cracked and tore the frame in the heat affected zone.  sorry i don't have pics of the whole i didn't have my camera when i cut out the frame and plated it.  So i re did my shocks to a v pattern with a crossmember of 2 x.120 wall tubing.  here are some pics

here are my original mounts that i had welded to the frame

here are pics of how the shocks are now

Just immagine the whole in the frame being almost as big as the plate on the frame

A buddy at work who helped me set these up said having the shocks in a v pattern also helps when cornering becuase they will almost act as a sway bar, and after driving it like this it did make a big difference when cornering, i feel alot less body roll.

864runner

and here are some pics of the rear suspension that i forgot to post

Wow!! You took that thing a loooooooong way!!! Very nice work! How long did it take you from start to finish?

That is awesome that your girlfriend is into wrenching. Been trying and trying just to get my girl to learn at least how to change her own oil but she IS not interested in learning  :smack:

Anyway, sick truck! Looks good.

Well I got it in October 2006 and i'm still not finished, i still need to put dual cases in, front and rear bumpers and a winch.  I have my roll cage i just need to spend a weeknd welding it in.  but other than that i have just been slowing saving and doing little by little as i go.

 :hahaha:

We have been doing our 4runners at almost the same pace for the same amount of time! I started tearing my 4runner down August of 2006. I just wish I could have had a lift to use, would have made things go a little smoother :D

I still have a ways to go with my truck too. Are you going to do an exocage or an internal?
