Alright  Iknow yotes are not know for much power and my question is about driveline effeciency.  I know you can loose quite a percent of your motors output as you gothrough the d-train.  So for you guys that run duals on your dd do you notice any power/fuel effeciency changes by having the extra case.....


Yes i am aware that they are an offroad comottie (spell)  and offroad they are the bomb.  I am mainly curious about the guys that still drive on the road?

my buddys running a pumped 22re and when he went duals he said it felt like he lost about 20 hp. his words are that it lost its "snap".





edit: i talked to him last night, he said more like 5hp but he cant light'em up like he used too.

I have not noticed any change in gas mileage or power since going duals. The only problem I have is at about 75 MPH i get a slight driveline vibration because of the shorter shaft and angle. that is the only downside I have noticed. Have only had them in about 3 months. I will have to do another gas mileage test to see if it changed anything. Powerwise it feels the same though

Cool thanks guys!  It would be cool to see a dyno on it!  Starting at the plain motor, then adding stock d-train and then doubles.

Nope, but there's supposed to be a good shop in fresno with a well set up dyno.

When I did it in my 81 I noticed a good difference and when I did it in my 86 i only noticed a slight difference.

My tired 4runner had 52 hp before duals( just a guess), Now with duals it has an even 50 hp.
No matter what there are still just 4 tiny squirrels powering my machine.

i noticed no difference at all,  if the gear boxes are really cold,  like when i had to go get my brother in Minnesota,  then   yea  it seems  to lose  some  but after  everything was warm again  it ran  just as strong as it always had

at first i noticed that it wasent my duals robbing power it was in fact a too high set of ring and pinion gears once fix didnt notice i am running the v6 engine though

When I went duals it *seemed* to lose a little bit of power, but it wasn't bad.  I still have the same mileage.

yes on both notes.  I DD mine, but I can't remember which engine was in it when I did duals.

normally i could answer this question but either half the junk put in my truck is not mine, then it is, and inbetween all that the trucks broken so much i havent been able to tell yet. i would assume you wouldnt be able to tell because the crawl box is in high just like the back case. its basically neutral not doing anything.

that was my reasoning as well...it should be no more than parasitic loss.  But I swear you can feel a difference.  Maybe it's all mental.  the thing to do would be to have an unbiased driver (read: honda guy) drive it before and after.

thats a good description   Not that the 3.0 has much "snap" to begin with, but I didn't notice much, just a little loss of the "snap"  Still cruises fine.

goin duals might add 25 pounds, maybe.  but just think when your pulled up next to a fullsize diesel, throw both cases in low and 4.10 gears you'll blow him away off the line.  I did this with 5.29's and I redlined too quick to grab third and by then the dudes turbo was spooled up.  But I got the holeshot for the first 30 feet!

I've been running duals w/ a 22R for about 5 years now in my DD and I have never noticed a difference in power loss. Well other then very first time I tried to drive my truck after installing it. But I then I realized I had the dual case in low.
