Factory 4.56 3rd or Aftermarket w/ solid spacer?
« on: Jan 30, 2008, 07:54:16 PM »
I was planning on buying a new from Toyota 4.56 elocker 3rd but after thinking about it for a bit I was thinking it might be better if I swapped in aftermarket gears with a solid spacer rather than the crush sleeve.  I'm assuming Toyota used crush sleeves on all their factory 3rds.

If I buy a elocker core and swap gears the cost is pretty much the same.  What would you do?

Thanks

toyota didnt use solid spacers, that was an aftermarket idea

That's incorrect. Toyota did use solid spacers in early models 3rds.

Been quoted around $450 for a elocker 3rd from a few places.  Some are cores (with busted gears) some not.  But I was planing on changing gears if I go that route anyway so I don't know if I care that the gears are junk.

In the end I figure the cost is too close between the 2 to make a difference to me, give or take $50-100.  I just want what is stronger.  New elocker 3rds from Toyota are $900
