I have a near new 42" tire, that ran over a t-post in the snow..... I have a new one ordered, but i would like to use this as a spare, is it possible? Can I have it patched? If not, can I try to patch it and run a tube inside of it? If so, where do i find a tube?? I need some expert advice, thanx peeps.  :beerchug:

depending on where  and if its  a trail only,  then it "could" be stitched with wire  then a LARGE  thick patch  put on the inside,
then a tube

although not used much anymore, a tire store should be able to get you a tube

or look into farm supply stores

You may check into having a boot put into that tire, then put a tube in there. I have heard of farmers getting sliced tires valconized (sp), where they bascially melt/glue the tire back together.

With either option I would use it as a spare. I wouldn't risk a blowout, it could be your life or others in the right wrong sircumstances.

A friend of mine runs a boot and a tube in his spare becouse of a simmimar occourance.

Basically its a single ply of tire that fits the contour of the inside of your tire. It dosent go all the way around but it will cover a large hole so the tube dosent get pushed through, or pinched in the gouge, hole, whatever. It will cause an imbalance, but Its just gonna be a spare from that point on anyhow.

we once used about 2 feet of bailing wire, 22 plugs and 40 ounces of slime to fix a slash in a side wall of an SX. It lasted for about 6 more runs!!!! :gap: We did turn it around on the rim so the cut was on the inside.

thanks glen! anyone ever done this? or know where to get a tube??

im pretty sure they dont sell tubes for that size tire, or a correct tube. we tried to do it on a buggy for the MC round up and they were incorrect and later found out that that there isnt a right size to just go an by in town. there could be if you go the route rockcrawlintoy posted though...

edit: what about patching it on the inside and using gorilla gluing around it. i dont know a ton about patching so.......

I work at tire pros, and we would never touch anything that bad, so I'm not sure you would have any luck taking it to a shop.  Too much liability.  But IMO, I would try to seal up the hole as best as possible (stitch it), put a patch on the inside to cover it up and protect the tube,  and find a tube to put in there.  That way the tube wont want to expand the hole open, and it wont be exposed to the outside.  Hate to see a tire like that go to waste...

i see your in magalia. I-5 tire in red bluff will prolly fix it. they fixed a buddys 38'' PJ with about an inch and a half gash. couldnt even tell it was cut when they were done

if you cant get it patched get the tire foam filled, works great. alot of ranchers and oilfield companies in west texas do that because of the mesquite thorns, never have to worry about a flat tire ever again.

I had two 36" tires vulcanized.  The sidewalls were slashed in a parking lot.  I only use them for offroad now and have been running them for about two years no problems.  I had a tractor place fix them for me.  A buddy of mine had a buddy that worked at the place so it was free.
