:headscratch: not sure I gained a full gear climbing the hill home today against about a 15-20 mph wind.

Not yet, my compression tester broke so I haven't figured it out yet, I'm guessing a little higher than stock, I'm running 87 octane in it and it didn't ping under load so? I'm also running it at 8* shorted.

87 and no ping?!?!?! you lucky dog. I've got mine at about 10-1 and I have to run the good stuff if I'm doing any thing like pulling my trailer or if I have my camper on. or even if I get on it hard getting on the freeway  :(

it only has about 65 miles on it right now so I've been babying it to let it get seated in. I ran the cam for 20 min at 2500rpm at startup and then let it cool and I adjusted the valves & re-torqued the head bolts-idles real smooth but the rockers are still making too much noise for me. 8 & 12, I think I'll try 7 & 11.

Who knows the formula for figuring comp ratio anyhow?

well it done by taking the volume of the cly with the piston down and then then find the volume of the com. chamber . say if the cly volume is 10 cubic inchs and the cc volume is 1 cubic inch then you have a 10-1 C/R :psss:

I'm not the best at explaning things sorry?

AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! GET THAT FRAM OIL FILTER OF THAT BEAUTIFUL ENGINE BEFORE YOU DAMAGE IT!!!!!!!!!!

Engine Oil Filter Study
http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil_filter_study/

"Years ago Fram was a quality filter manufacturer.  Now their standard filter (the radioactive-orange cans) is one of the worst out there.  These filters are manufactured by Allied Signal, Inc.  Please do not buy these filters......"

".......The rubber anti-drainback valve seals against the cardboard and easily leaks, causing dirty oil to drain back into the pan.  If you have a noisy valve train at startup, this filter is likely the cause......."

I stopped using Fram on my race engine after I read that entire page, switched to AC Delco, and no joke my oil pressure increased 10 lbs at idle and 5 lbs at max pressure.

I will never use Fram again. Sorry for scaring you :lipsrsealed: but I must spread the word about Fram filters..... That webpage is actually around 3 years old but I still follow his advice.. You be the judge :twocents:

BigMike

It's better to know  it now then knowing it to late, BigMike you should do a write up on what's good and what's not in the aftermarket parts. Or anyone that has tried a bunch of them.

I allways use the factor filter on my junk. are they ok?

WHITE_TRASH

I have cut fram filters open and compared them to a few others, fram has about half the pleats to filter the oil as the rest of the filters!  I use Napa Gold filters, they are made by wix and they have been a very good filter so far.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

AMSOIL! AMSOIL! AMSOIL! I don't put anything but this stuff on my vehicles. Their products are the best thing I've ever used. They are expensive retail, but I am good friends with a distributor and he gives me them at cost. before I started using Amsoil I ran purolator filters with good results

If you notice that a fram ph8a or standard ford filter and its also about 10years old. Found it laying on the back shelf and just put it on there for the pic. I actually run the wix filters just beacuse I get em for nothing through work

i'd love to put in a 5M or a 3RZ but the idea of doing the work scares me when it comes to engines.  i'm just gonna rebuild the 20R and hop it up a little

BigMike

LilSwamper-

Your ideas are bouncing all around... Why not start with something more practicle like lowering your ring gears one step in order to "feel" more power and then spend your money on Suspension work and drivetrain.....

........just a thought?
