Do I need this thing?
« on: Jan 03, 2008, 08:33:21 PM »
I want to put dual batts. in my truck and I figured I would mount it on the drivers side.  My buddy seems to think I have to have it there but I don't think so. This is the box that is attached to the air cleaner assembly.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

I think it's just an echo canister to make the truck quite when your on the gass.  Take that and your intake plumbing off up to the airfilter box and get into the second barrel and you can hear the echo i so speak of :)

i run mine without it....

however, if you live in an area that requires emissions testing, you must have it in there or it will fail

Its a water (rain) catch/diverter. It is not a part of the emmissions system.

out here in texas my dad took abunch of emissions stuff off of his 91 FJ80 and pluged it up and it passed and they didn't care. i'll eventually take off my cat and disconnect my needless vaccum lines.
lets not and say we did.

I am guessing that I don't have one of these, since nothing in my engine bay looks like that black thing. (85 22re) :dunno:

Thanks guys for the responses, that's what I of figured, a useless piece of plastic that I don't need since I am in Oregon and we don't have the strict emissions like other states.   :beerchug:

with emissions depends on where you go to get tested. some places will rely on the sniffer, if you meet the requirements then whats under the hood doesnt matter. other places will fail you just for installing an aftermarket air filter.

not emissions but when i had my old 81 gmc pickup inspected in midland texas (no emissions) i passed without having a muffler, was quiet enough to meet the noise ordinance with just the cat installed.
