I hate the annoying door buzzer!
« on: Jan 03, 2008, 07:38:18 PM »
My door buzzer sounds like a dieing cow with a high pitched moo. I can't stand it anymore! Where is it located in a second gen truck? Is it behind the inside fuse box like in third gens (it is the only thing I found by searching)? Or?? I want to unplug it and not take out the fuse, because I do like the light that comes on when the doors open. :help:

you can just open your door and reach around til you find the relay that is vibrating and pull it

and that will kill just the buzzer? I have not looked at the wiring diagrams, so I don't know if there is anything else connected to it.

If you unplug the buzzer box you'll more than likely kill your dome as well, it did on my '86.  Pull the clamshell (steering column shroud) off and follow the wire(s) from the ignition down the column.  The should end at a plug near the dash, find the plug and disconnect it.  This worked on my '86 and only killed the buzzer, everything else stayed the same.  On my PowerStroke I just pulled the wire out of the ignition.  I hate buzzers  :maddest:.  Anyway, hope that works for ya.

Here's what the plug looks like on my '86,

i found mine close to the heater box thing behind the console. it on the drivers side of the box stuff and i just reached up and pulled it off and disconnected it and then boat ancored it. i'll take a picture of where it used to be in a little bit. somewhere on here or one of the other forums i'm on there was a post about it that told me where it was.
lets not and say we did.

well, I looked for the buzzer today, and figured it was up where 4xJedi said it would be, because that is where the annoying noise was the loudest. I can't get up there to figure out what plug it is until I take some stuff apart, so this will just have to wait until the weekend when I can get inside a shop to work on it. Thanks everyone!

The buzzer itself is under the dash centered above your feet, it's a black box.  I showed you where the plug to disconnect the buzzer only was.  Hopefully yours is in the same place.

Oh yeah, the buzzer was THE first thing I removed from my truck :yesnod:

On a 1st gen truck it is on the passengers side

If you pull the cover off your steering console, you will see a thing on you key switch with 2 wire running to it. This triggers your buzzer when your door is open and key in ignition. If you remove or snip the 2 wires your annoying buzzing will go away.

that's odd i didn't have to pull anything i don't think. i just reached up and pulled it off and unpluged it and threw it away. mine was above or close to the gas pedal. like 4Xjedi said it's a black box about 4 square inches with some white writing on it. i think it even said door buzzer or something to that extent.
lets not and say we did.

I have been ignoring it since I bought the truck, but it has finally gotten to me. It wasn't bad at first, but now it changes frequences and gargles like it is broken, and it is SOOOOOO annoying. If it would just have the same tone all the time, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

When I removed mine I took the buzzer apart and removed the metal element that actually vibrates.  Then I reintalled it, and this kept all of the dome lights and everything working right (except for the fact my drivers side door switch is junk).

you can also take a drill bit and drill a small hole through the metal (piezo) center

just pull it off. when i pulled it off and disconnected it, it didn't affect my dome light or anything because if you pull the wire off it doesn't disrupt the connection. mine was a little hard to pull off but it did come off. it doesn't really matter if you brake it i don't think.

Wow how things have changed since I first started on this site! I guess I never updated this thread with what I did. I ended up pulling the buzzer box out and opening it up. Once opened up, I snipped an internal wire so I could retain normal dome light function, but not have the buzzer. Now the truck is in a million pieces spread among a few states, and will probably be getting turned into a tube buggy of some sort once I get all the pieces back together. Wow how things have changed! I can't believe somebody brought such a simple topic back from the dead.
