question on dual cases
« on: Dec 30, 2007, 12:20:56 PM »
i just got done with my dual tcase setup, but havn't installed it in the truck yet.  just wondering, on the main shaft for the crawlbox, where it sticks out the front and goes into the tranny, the splines on the shaft go up to sharp points toward the back of the shaft.  i've heard that you have to take a flap disc to them and knock them down so they match the rest or the splined shaft.  is this true, or is that the way it should stay?

if you have a tcase that came behind a L43 4 speed  transmission  then YES   take a  grinder  and take off enough of the raise spline  so the coupler  slides all the way on

hey glenn, this probably seems like a really stupid question, but what is the coupler?  it did come out from behind a 4 speed, so i'm guessing that means i need to do some grinding.  the raised spline is only on one end of the shaft, right?  thanks for the reply

I think the coupler is the piece between the two cases that has splines both inside and outside.  It should already be assembled as part of the dual case.  If your putting it back into the 4 spd transmission it shouldn't matter, but if it's going in a 5 spd transmission then it sounds like you have some work to do.

Wait for Glen's reply to be sure.

the coupler  im talking about is  the  part  that  slides over  the outputshaft of the transmission,  you can remove it  but its a pain in the :moon:   look at  the splines  of the tcase input,  you can see where they kinda  swell up  onto the seal surface  of the input

and yes  if  going BACK into  the 4spd  then you dont have to worry about this step
