Try looking in www.jcwhitney.com They usually have at least one of those.

Why not replace or fix the heater core thats in it?   :dunno:
I like to Drive!

KDXSR5

why not find a good heater core?
In the winter i never let my truck warm up all the way, so the windshield is almost never defrosted. I just roll down the window and drive with my head out the window. Kind of dangerous, but it gets the job done.

EDIT: everyone beat me to it

12GA.YOTA

I dont want it apart of my ducting or any thing I just want one I can put on my dash or mount from the ceiling to defrost the window so I can see

Find a microfiber rag and wipe off the windshield every once in a while. That works pretty well too. It wont leave lint or smears on the glass like other kinds of rags.

12GA.YOTA

tried that but as soon as i breath it fogs back up. I even tried that anti fogg stuff from rain x but that didn't work very well ether btw its just denatured alcohol so dont buy that crap.

how much is a good heater core? seems like you're just throwing money at a problem without really fixing anything. A would consider a working defrogger a piece of safety equipment (sounds dumb, i know, captain safety) and it should not be compromised. I have a good core if you need one

I will probably replace it later on. I live in Arizona so it's only winter for like 3 months and I wont need it again 4 a while, plus it's not usually my dd but my Z71 is in the shop right now. I only really need it when it's realy cold or when it rains and thats not that often here plus I cant have the truck down because I need to get to work. figured I would get a quik fix now and when I get my other truck back then I can replace the heater core.I hear it's a real pain to do :hammerhead:

There ya go!  And already boxed up too.  It really dosen't take long to just swap out a heater core.     Less than 45 min...

x a million on the heater core.  :gap:

I'm with glen, I've seen a lot of cig lighter plug in heater/fans that sit right on the dash.  Even when I'm driving with the heater on, the defrost doesn't work very well.  It 'll get the bottom foot clear, but not the top.  Anyone who's met me knows that doesn't help me too much :gap:  I just drive with wing window cracked open, and the side window rolled down an inch or two.  Helps every time.  I stay warm because the heater does work, and my windows stay clear.

maybe its jsut me, but when my windows are foggy, i bust on the A/C instead of the heater

Are you positive it is the heater core???
Could just be the valve is stuck.  I pulled mine and cleaned it up and viola!
HEAT!
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

harbor fright sells a heater that you plug into your cigarette lighter and it works really well my buddy has one in his truck and it heats his who truck in like 5 min! and it only cost 12 bucks

TheCookieMonster

thats cool you figured it out! my heater core craped out to..it leaked all over the inside of my truck so i took it out for now and bypassed it with a hose. i need heat also for the snow so i got to get somethin figured out..probably replace the core or get a suburban heater core and a little electric fan...i gotta get goin on that!

79coyotefrg

its a  job  but  thats what ya gotta do,  theres a bolt on each side  that hold the unit to the firewall,  gotta remove all the venting  thats in the way,  easiest way is  when the dash is out  :ack:

180 watts of scorching heat! I suppose if it doesn't get cold that MAY take the fog off your windshield. I'd personally fix the heater core as I could produce more heat myself after a few bowls of chili than one of those electric heaters. To produce anything resembling heat with an electric you need to draw way too many amps which you're not going to get from your lighter plug.

82rustbeast

Heres a cheap one from Napa. I can use my Employee discout too and get it for like $23-$25 It'd probably heat up quick in my cab quick anyway cus its so small

In my current motor swap into my 82 truck, I completely pulled out all of the heater and AC stuff.

#1 I dont use AC, I just roll down the windows. AC wastes gas.

And #2 my heater core box was broken, so it just hung there all ugly, and took up valuble space.

So now I have space in front of the shifter for gauges, CB, maybe stereo stuff or anything else useful that cant be put aanywhere else.

Just my  :twocents:

It's not just you. Most vehicles that have a/c automatically turn on the a/c when the defrost is selected cause it dehumidifies the air. Thats way the windows de-fog so fast  :twocents:
