I cannot believe some tosser made out with 8 gallons of my 91 grade petrol .  I get into my rig tonight and find the gas gauge nearly on zero and the gas cap laying on the fender well off the bed gas door wide open. I guess I'm off to buy a locking gas cap in the morning.  I did not even want to look at the gas pump spin as I filled it back up.

With how expensive gas is getting I think this is going to become a problem

Sorry to hear of that -- but you're lucky it was only 8 gallons.  Look for more of this as fuel prices escalate.   Couple days ago I heard of people stealing stove oil.  A guy had just filled his locked 250 gallon tank and the thieves broke off the drain valve.  Took what they could carry in cans, and left the rest to drain into the ground...

Sadly with the way the price of gas is going this will become all to common. Don't think a locking cap will stop them especially if you have an exposed tank or access to any tube that goes to it. Last year they removed the fill tube to my motorhome to try and get at it. I not only have the locking door but also have a locking cap. Fortunately I don't fill it until I'm taking it out and always try to leave it almost dry, they didn't get nothing but it sure made a mess and screwed up a trip when I tryed to fill it and the gas just went straight to the ground. I had the same thing happen many years ago to my 84 Toyota, same situation but this time they just cut the fill tube to get the siphon in.

Never fill your tank the night before, someone may be watching. Nothing easier to drain than a full tank. I alway fill in the morning so that nobody is given the chance to take it all. Sucks to have to think like this.

That sucks for you!  I'd love to catch somebody trying to steal gas out of my truck.

Depending on which truck, I may still throw lit matches at them :haha:  I have some great ping pong to tennis ball size rocks mixed in the gravel outside, and have plenty of practice throwing them at the neighbor cats that insist on infesting my property.  I CAN be a good shot sometimes too...

Never bring a rock to a gunfight, you hear too often of the guy that confronts someone messing with their vehicle and end up shot.

That is nicked up.

My concern for a locking gas cap was because I don't want some tool pouring sugar or <enter substance here> into my tank, but now with the gas prices so high, its nice to know its locked.... Rocksurfer is right though........ The only thing locks will do is keep honest people away. :(

lol locks only do keep honest people away somebody stole my dirtbike outa the back of my truck in the driveway with 2 master disc locks and 2 krptonite cables into the bed (not the bolted mounts)

not matter what it is, is somebody wants it, their gonna get it.

not much you can do but park in the light where alot of people have the chance to watch it. or get a steel gas tube and steel tank with some fort knox lock on the cap (somebody will try and steal your crap just for the challenge)

The one on my mh is steel but you have to have a hose to join the filler with the tube.
