Darrins 3rd Gen 4runner (GOT REAR ENDED)

Got this 4runner from a guy in roseville about a year ago and it had 132K.
It's a 96 4runner with the 5VZ-FE, r150f, and borla catback, otherwise completly stock.

Current Mods: K&N drop-in filter, alot of plastic removal, Cobra CB, Marlin Clutch 1200 lb clutch, Husky Liners, mossy oak seatcovers, Bent tie-rodsm, Marlin Sliders, and lots of self-recovery gear in the back.

Future Mods: detroit trutrac or aussie locker(if aussie makes one for the 8.4"RG by then) Custom bumperrs, Old man emu 3" IFS lift coils and shocks

this build up is REALLY slow due to working part time at jiffy lube and still in high school , but I should be getting a job at the tire center  at costco in april(when I turn 18)

I do alot of high lakes and oroville wilderness wheelin, this is my DD and I want it to be sort of expedition rig style, because I do alot of backwoods style fishing in it.

Nice runner.  to the board. You have the best looking front clip on the third gen 4runner body style IMO. they get too bulky later on. Good luck on the aussie locker, i have been waiting over a year just for an 88+ V6 rear aussie locker.

I didn't know they didn't have them for the 88-95 v6 rears, I think that rules me out for the aussi and im gonna have to go with the tru trac. lock rights aren't "street friendly" enough for as much driving as I do.

lockrights are fine on the street. it takes a little getting used and you just adjust your driving style but, you'll live. i hardly even know mine is back there now and it hooks up great in when i need it.

and make sure you save for if you really want it(I.E. armor, crawler, axle swap), set aside money from your paycheck, don't spend it on alcohol every weekend.

Good starter   Keep a close eye on those wheels, I've seen a few of that style develop cracks either where the spokes meet the center or the rim.

I've been planning on ditching the rims for some black steelies or classic 2's but i don't have money to buy new ones.  The rims are  but the came with the runner. i've got some good gauges in them already

 So as of sunday 12/9 we went on a christmas tree/snow wheelin run up to butte meadows/high lakes area. got to the skyway/humbug intersection and someone in front of me was trying to merge in and so i let him in, and while I'm at a complete stop i get totally buttplowed by my buddy with a 3rd gen pickup on 33's. basically, that ruined my day and went home. Estimate is 4500 dollars and a possible total, will find out later today.  I will post pics when i get home because I'm at school right now. Getting rear-ended is

not even bad but the damgae is 4500 and KBB is only worth 6300. it's worth 10000 in my opinion

I have bought back totaled rigs a few times and fixed them,  for way way less, then drive them forever.  If you can thats what I would do. If you shop for you own parts, it doesnt look too bad from the pic.

If you can buy it for the value (maybe $1,800  ), it is a screaming deal. It will have a salvaged title that will hurt resale, but you can fix it cheap and it holds more people than a first gen pickup.

If they will sell it to you for $1,800 and you decide to pass, let us know.
