jumping idle
« on: Oct 18, 2007, 08:41:06 AM »
i dont know if this goes here or not, but o well..

yesterday my buddy was looking at my engine and what not just checking things out. when he asked me to start it i did. it was idleing just just and i gave it one pump of the peddle just enough so he could hear it. when i got out of my runner it started to idle high around 1g, and then dropped to around 500, and bounced back up to 1g again. it did this for about a minute and then stopped and idled around 550-600

anybody have any idaes of what it could be???

thanks

Carb? EFI?

Check your TPS specs and clean your throttle body while you're in there.

EFI....my bad

the motor was rebilt about 3000 miles ago as well, so is this typical with rebuilt motors or just something that happens now and again?

I checked the throttle body when i got there and it is clean and the TPS isnt adjustable. Yes youre going to say it is but whoever worked on the motor previously instead of putting a screw or a small bolt in there they put a screw but it had like a round head on it so the only way to get it off would probably be an easy out.

Symptoms of a bad or mis-adjusted TPS include variying idle speed, hesitation while accelerating, poor fuel economy, and inabiltiy to correctly set base ignition timing.

You don't think that it is worth checking?

Just because I said I doubt thats it doesnt mean I or AJ can check it

I dodnt think he put that screw on there actually. That looks like it has been there a long while.

Since Ive had to deal with TPS issues (putting in 4 new ones) I can check it for you with that handy dandy multi-meter that I had at teh con if youd like.
