Ok, so I bought a 2000 taco 3.4, 5speed, 4wd last week. This is my first 3.4 an I wanted the extra power output along with the add streangth of the drivtrain. Well The day after I got it the tranny starts to whine and after inspection relize the dope is slung everywhere underneath the truck
I take it home degrease the tranny/case, drain/refill (with lucas additive) in hopes of curing the whine. It helped nothing and after much reasearch I beleive the rear output seal has gone and the P.O. ran the tranny low on dope, in turn burning the bearings out.
My question is; is it worth replacing the bearings? I would be having them replaced as I dont have the knowlage or time to tear into my tranny. Everything I read where guys had done this it ended up being a band aid for awhile and the problem returns after a few 1k miles.
Another reason for the desire for the 5-1-5 is the hopes on not having to regaer the IFS for the next couple years. This would allow me to keep the 4.10's and roll 35's?
Lots of rambling, but input would be great. I just bought this truck last week so it is kind of upseting, even if I do get some cool parts out of the deal.
Thanks
