BAD ASS

my old one was completely quiet...hardly ever unloaded....my new one unloads pretty violently but is still manageable...does concern me a little for snow/ice though because my old one was much more predictable (as far as unloading)

hardly chirps tires, tire wear is virtually the same w/o locker (alot of it is driving style though) ...

screw birfs. they fail to easy on a beef up axle.

ive read up on aussies and heard good about them.
and they are fairly priced too.

does the 84-85 axles have some type of factory locking mechanism in front?
just wondering.

the IFS's do.
not strong im sure.
but it works.

I have 4.88's with 33's and an Aussie in the rear and Trutrac up front on my 85 PU.  Building a 85 runner and was thinking Aussie front and rear with 5.29's and 36inch tires. What do you think , Stay with the Aussies or go Detroit in rear ?  I have not had any problems with the Aussie. But smaller pinion gear and larger tires ?

I know its a bit off toipc, but has anyone run a birf eliminator kit?  Would they hold up better?  That birf pic is crazy I have only seen the cages break not the whole birf blowing up!!

i have an aussie front and rear they work great i have not had any problems yet the rear locker is not loud at all on the street it clicks allot around corners that happens with all lockers im sure the front is great as well when its locked in 4 lo it goes everywhere i have not been pulled off anything or had to use the winch yet. im a firm believer in aussie lockers for the price  :driving: :turtle3: :beerchug:

That is a good question 84 I know in my case the only reason I stay with birfs is to go to Longfeilds. And when you can get something that small and light to compare to a heavy ass dana 60 I do not see how you can go wrong

Yeah it might be easier to wrestle into position too.  Trying to get a longfield birf into the driver side can be a challenge with that long axle!  It took my brother and I forever to get it in his truck since there isn't much clearance.

hey guys using front/rear aussie setup during winter months,,....either going up or down a hill trying to make a turn onto another road, would the truck  actually turn or just go stait as all four wheels would be moving

I think it might tend to go straight a little.  But I bet it would be ok still, I mean the front wheels are turned so they should pull you that way.

With the locker in the rear, you probably won't even need to go into 4 wheel.
