The main thing would be ground clearance,  Everything is usually above midline of the tire with a mog, and second they have portal boxes on the ends so there is a final gear reduction at the wheel reducing the stress of larger tires on the rest of the system...  I think they are probably lighter too but im not posative on that....   However I dont  think their quite as structurally strong,  I think the portal boxes are prone to break since they wernt desighned for horizontal load...   They both have their advantages and disadvantages...

I was considering building something like this out of an old dodge I had before I got my toyota.
`87 runner....it was stock....now sas'd, 37's, duals, geared/ locked, 10in bob, half doors, rock lights. etc., etc.,.........coming soon a 3.4 swap!!!
