Brake light wiring issues 91 pickup
« on: Sep 17, 2007, 03:52:06 PM »
After breaking out my taillights several times over the last few wheeling trips, I decided to flush in some oval tail lights into my tail gate.  I tore into the harness not thinking it would be much of a hassle.  I am used to jeeps which have 3 wires (tail, break/turn, and a ground)  The toyota has 7 wires.

Using a test light I thought i figured it all out.  I found the tail light and turn wires easily, i figured the turn signal would also function as the brake light aswell.  No such luck, I can not get any power back to the wiring when the brakes are applied.

Here are the wires I have figured out (I think)
Ground- White w/ Black Stripe & groups of 2 red bands
Tail- Green w/ groups of 2 red bands
Turn/Hazard- Green w/ Black stripe & single red bands

here are the unknown wires
1. White w/ Black stripe & single red bands
2. Green w/ White stripe & groups of 2 red bands
3. Green w/ groups of 2 red bands
4. Red w/ Black stripe

Has anyone else run into this when using these types of lights with flatbeds etc?  Any input would be great.

here are the unknown wires

1. White w/ Black stripe & single red bands ----Ground

2. Green w/ White stripe & groups of 2 red bands----Brake Lights

3. Green w/ groups of 2 red bands----Licence plate

4. Red w/ Black stripe----Back Up lights

This is according to my FSM for my 90 PU

Turn signals are separate from the brake/tail light.

if your not getting power to the brake lights when the brake is applied then you have a blown fuse (could of shorted when cutting wires) or a short somewhere
