So i was walking around the local amusement park a couple of weeks ago with my wife and my child in her stroller.... everytime i came up to a small bump or even uneven ground, my stupid stroller keep stopping dead in it tracks from the wheel's going sideways..... that's where it hit me...

I am in the process of building a 4 link lifted stroller, with springs and all... it's tedious work, but if i could figure out how to make it for cheap (not cheaply built), how many people in the 4 wheeling community would buy one????????..... it's not going to be very bulky, and not lifted way off the ground.... just enough to get flex and a better stroller ride....

I know there are prolly a lot of people saying "why don't you just go out and buy a newer and better stroller????" ..... OK..... where is the fun in that???? thats what i ask you....  :yesnod:

i really can't wait for it to be done so i can post pics, but the problem i am running into is finding springs small enough for the stroller....

So what do y'all think??? Post up what you guy/gals think.... :gap:

I had the same problem.

Solution: Jogging stroller

Cost me $150 at Babies-r-us and it has full suspension on it. 1000X better.

weirdtimes_7

Thats cool... but i wanna go with a full suspension on it just to have it, maybe put the from left tire on a bench but still have the rear tire's sitting on the ground  i know it sounds dumb to a lot of peep's, but i think it would be an eye catcher....

It'd be putting Marlin Crawler sticker's on it

Sounds like you need to put larger pnuematic tires on it & lower the air pressure for a smooth ride, the tire will form better & it won't get caught in the cracks & uneven surfaces  :twocents:

Build it anyway & if it works, awsome

Problem with the tire's though... there not rubber, there solid plastic, thats where it sucks cause i got down to air em down, and noticed there plastic  :tantrum: .....  oh well, sinbob just told me to go to Harbor Frieght and get some 8 inch wheel's and put em on there..... just might check into it

we have a 3 wheeled jogging stroller, its got air filled small bicycle tires.... works for us.... the rear wheels are fixed and the front pivots, ive never needed it to articulate....

HAHA, common peeps, ya'll arn't seeing where i'm going with this.... if there were stroller's that you could buy that had flex like your trucks do, would you buy it to sport the 4 wheeling community?????

Now that would be cool.... it's got a 4 point harness already in the stroller, but it would be pretty cool to have an EXO going on, HAHAHAHa

As long as safety is #1, i'd say give it a shot.

You should make the front wheels str8 and rear steer...that way the front wheels never get caught tunred sideways on bumps.  You could base it off a center link hub with 4 arms coming out diagonally to the hubs.  4 wheel independant, single arm, coilover on each arm.  Knobby go-cart tires or front lawm tractor tires.  PIMP
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

See, thats what i'm talking about.... the problem is that i can't find any springs small enough for it... the one's i did  find would lift it off the ground at least 18 inche's.... i don't want that....

If anyone has any link's to small suspension components, please post it up, thanks all

would an atv shock work?

don't think i'd spend that much on shocks for a stroller though

Use some RC truck tires and motors and remote control the stroller it would be fun for you and the baby  :disturbed:

lol all these ideas are crazy and im laughing hard over here....i was thinking the RC tires and as for spring  :dunno:  maybe hood shocks for a forklift....those would work great if you could get some

weirdtimes_7

i'm thinking the rear hatch shocks will prolly be the best for it....  my goal is to build a frame for the bottom of the stroller and keep it light.... i hope it all goes as i have planned

Build it, and they will buy.

I want one.  Gonna have a little wheeler on my hands in about 4 months.  :)

Hey MS,  you also neeed to add a standing platform in the rear for the operater. Why does the child always get the free ride?  Since it's not built for high speed it can also be gear reduced to the right speed and allow for enough torque to pull a decent incline... :gap:

BikerTrash

Those Lift struts you where talking about using are pretty strong, I would suggest having your suspension set up as a radius arm with the arms meeting near the center of the stroller with the links trailing towards the center (keep it so they are not running directly front to back, since there wont be a driveshaft (as I understand it at least) you could just add a link from the rear right mount of one link to the other link near where it meets the strollers undercarage and that should keep it from swaying side to side. If it was me doing it I would keep the front mounts about 3/4 of the distance apart at the mounts on the axle so that it will remain kinda stable and you wont need swaybars to keep the stroller from leaning in turns to badly.

Back to the struts. Allot of them are over 40 pounds to compress them so if you have one at each corner you wont get much suspension action since it will take 160 pounds of load to compress them. my Idea is to have the top mounts for them at the extream corners of the stroller, and connected to the radius arms about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way up the link so that it will give it more leverage and only take 40 pounds of weight to start the suspension compressing (if i have this figured right) and only 10 pounds for one corner to start compressing on its own.

Would be neat to have the steering controllable and not just casters... Haven't figured that out yet but I am thinking a handlebar that rocks side to side rather than turning like a bicycle connected to a control rod like what is used to turn an outboard motor when a boat has a console.  :gap:
