University 'very easy' for Hong Kong nine-year-old

This kid is in an odd situation...he'll be going to his first beer bash at ten, but won't be able to date any of his classmates, unless he has an American woman for a teacher!

I am interested in seeing what these so called "prodigys aka genius"  do with their lives. Do they actually put all this amazing knowledge to use?  or do they become part of the sh*t?

Good question. His brother went to Oxford (I don't recall how old he was at the time), so evidently their parents don' let these kids watch Barney or MTV. I wonder if they'll end up working for us or just working on stuff the Clintons let them have.

He's going to miss being a kid...5 years in university, at an age when he should be playing football or going fishing. Hell, it's not like they're going to do away with math in the next few years.

:hahaha:  My sister is one of them!!! :hahaha:  my 2 siblings and I went to the same high school.  My sister had almost no social life, and still doesn't know how to deal with people.  She has 0 people skills.  She can't hold a conversation with adults, and any conflict that arises, she runs from.  She doesn't like interacting with people at all.

same thing goes for a lot of home schoolers IMO.  And if you look at a lot of home schoolers, especially the "Christian" ones, as soon as they go to the first public school of their life (college) they go off the deep end.  The biggest partiers I knew when I was in the dorms had their first real social experiences in college.

I have two cousins in NV. that are home schooled Christians, one of them is going to High School as a Freshman this year... yea.. that should be interesting.

The same goes for Children that are bottle fed their entire lives and the parents that don't pull the bottle out of the kids mouth. They don't really experiance ANYTHING so when it comes time for them to make their own social decisions they havn't a clue what to do... thus resulting in the deep end.

On a more serious note, those of you who were home schooled. Although you didn't get much interaction in a school platform with other children, were you pretty active with other children after school?

To be honest, Homeschool prepared me very well, scholastically.  I loved school when I finally started going, and I graduated with honors and a great GPA.  I'll admit, I didn't get the social interaction I wanted, but I did have friends and a lot of interaction with the families in the neighborhood growing up.  :dunno: I don't have anything against it if there is structure and a little effort put into the process.

NOW, if a child is forced to do home school against their will, and doesn't get any social interaction, I can see problems galore in their future :nonono:

I have several friends who were home schooled all the way up to college.  All of their families home schooled due to religious and educational reasons.  They wound up in a home school "group" where for different classes, they went to different houses, etc.  They had very good friends, but unfortunately, it didn't extend beyond their "group."  Also, a big problem was conflict resolution, arguements, etc.  Growing up, they didn't have the experience of going to school with someone of a different religious/ social/ ethical background, so they never had any issues of that sort.  Also, they never really got to experience or play sports in HS.  They didn't really learn the value of teamwork, of effort, of a joint activity like that (not to mention hand/eye coordination)  I actually have a friend (homeschooled) who is 24 years old, and had never played baseball or softball until this past summer, and also had never competed in a competitive sport of any kind.

A lot of home schoolers wind up very intelligent and well educated people, but in my experience most of them lack social skills that I believe are really learned in HS, and that not learning them is a huge social deficit that some people get over, and some don't.
