OK, notice how your axle is rotated up? get some probably 4 degree shims, and put them between the axle and the leaf pack, big end forward, and it'll fix your caster angle...making the truck steer correctly.

Duffil

this is my front end...notice the angle the axle sits at? very close to stock.

Duffil

start with ditching the torsion bar...see if anything changes.  If not, I'd try picking up some shims...they are not expensive.

nvtoyin21

Also, if you didnt already know, make sure that when you go to put the shims in, that you bolt them in with the spring pack. May have to buy longer set or center pins to compensate for the shims. Just a reminder! :beerchug:

I appreciate the feedback from both of you guys. And duffil, where can I  get those shims?? And I will pull my torsion bar off tonight and see how it is.  :beerchug: for both of yous

if i shim it the way you have it. wont it make the angle even worse? just thinking out loud. I thought they had to go the opposite of what you have in order to bring the back of mine up.  :dunno:

no...you don't want to bring the angle up, you want it to come down.

84solidaxletoy

took the torque rod out today, looks like the angle is gone. still steers terribly tho.

put the steering stabilizer on......do not use both stabilizer and torque rod...get rid of the torque rod it limits flex...

if u want the ultimate in steering stabilizers go hydro assist

EDIT: didnt realize you had push pull steering..u need the torque rod

really?? gee maybe I better go dig mine outta the trash then..Oh wait it's been gone like a year and a half. :headshake:

84solidaxletoy

well tomorrow im gonna buy some shocks for the rear. ill take an old shock and put it where the torque rod goes and see what it does for me, if that dont work ill scope out a steering stabilizer. if that dont work ill try both. shouldnt be too expensive.

84solidaxletoy

thanks military stang, but i think you already commented that already on mine haha.

duffil- i put a shock up front, steers a little better, not much at all tho. if i had to rate it, the stock set up was probably a 9/10 and now i would give it a 4/10. what do you think of a steering stabilizer? i dont care how the wheel likes to jump around too when i hit dips, and its not slightly, its almost enough to rip the wheel outta your hand.

Duffil

it's worth a shot I guess.  It will slow the thing down anyway.  I still have the stock one on mine...no clue as to it's condition or what it actually does for me though.  I still think your geometry is all fawked off though.

84solidaxletoy

the stock one broke off when my buddy owned the truck, so i never had one. i thought i understood what you were saying when you said shim the axle. well i can say i do understand now, but i dont know what i need the caster angle to be at to where it drives fine...

Duffil

so the caster affects the toe in and stuff? cuz i noticed how my tires are a little toed in now...i believe it is toe in because the bottom of the tire is more inward than the top

84solidaxletoy

well, i have got it set up pretty good now. i bought a dropped drag link, put the stock j arm back on(not flipped). and it steers like a champ. took it to glamis this weekend and had a blast. but now i have a new problem on my  hands, i have the bilstein 5125 shocks up front, single not duals, and after a while of driving, it seems like they get heated up really quick and basically stop working, they just bottom quickly. im wondering if running duals up front would work, or to ditch the 25's and go with 5150's?? now, if i go duals, how would i set it up. would i use a shock hoop? and where would i put tabs to run 2 shocks?

:welcome: from Wyoming. I see in your first post that you are running a header w/o cats with a flowmaster. What series flowmaster is it, and what size is the tubing? I have a LCE header sitting on the couch next to me, and I hope to get it on here pretty soon. I am planning on running 2.25 tubing, no cat, but I am not sure what muffler to go with. I was thinking flowmaster 60 series. I just wanted to know if you were running a 60 series, and if you were, how loud it is. Thanks!

Are looking for something loud or semi loud or what? Ive got a flow on my toy running a 4.3L. Its a 40 series, sounds Great! Not too loud but yet has a throaty sound. Flows the way to go!

I ended up with a 50 series, it is a little (way) too loud for my tastes, but I am getting used to it (sort of). It sounds better now that whatever was reverberating has quit. It sounds ok, just way too loud.

Thread of header and exhaust here, no pics other than header, too cold out right now> http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=38450.60

Thanks Kimber. More pics to come soon. waitin for more glamis trips. and its time to finish the uhh...trail-gear lift...now dont anyone rip my head off for goin w t-g but they were the only ones with 3 inch springs. 4 inch is too much. its too high as it seems right now. and by the way. the pics that show the front springs on here as of right now those springs are tossed didnt know what they were for but they were terrible, now have t/g up front and workin on the rear too. and now going to run bilstein 5150's so hopefully they will work better.

KDXSR5

FYI, All-pro offers 3 inch leaf springs, so tg is not the only one. Link: http://allprooffroad.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=47

84solidaxletoy

ummm...kdx, it is saying that the 3" rears are discontinued from apor. And i also heard that those springs were not very good either. i have heard that both mc and tg have basically the best springs. the fronts are working great so far, even though I have not had it off-road at high speeds yet. i will be putting the 3" rears on this weekend. and i now have 4 5150's so hopefully she works good.

KDXSR5

Ahh... I didn't know you were doing go fast stuff. Yeah, the All-pros would not be the best for that. Glad you like what you got! Keep on keepin on.

84solidaxletoy

ya i like a mixture of stuff. i drive it in the desert over whoops at a descent speed and i also take it to the sand dunes in glamis and that is where i run it through the ringer. gotta keep her pinned there and whatever happens, happens.
