yeah, my 4-wheel is no bueno right now either...4.10's in back with 5.29's if front.  Buuuuuuuuut, if I lock the hubs and put both cases in low...maybe it will be a theft deterrent.

OK so we got the thick bacon... but RK can't find the salami... and Deans wife has the cheese...

I like to think that she just gets better with age :) anyways, finally mounted my front shocks on tonight, took an hour and a half because i couldnt use the stock top hanger because the shocks i purchased had the eye holes top and bottom. o well she handles great now. hopefully soon i will get some more recent pictures up.

finally got the bilstein shocks put on. just gotta fix some other stuff and lengthen the front drive shaft, and then possibly lift the rear when more funds come in.

baconator

your front shackle angle looks a little steep.  im guessing its because your springs havent settled yet.  im thinking a u-bolt flip kit would be a good idea too.  have you flexed it out yet to see if your shocks are going to limit travel any?  other than that it looks pretty good for not having a rear lift yet.

im not following when you say shackle angle? and a rear lift is comin soon, but it will not be level with the front. i kept the stock steering. and im trying to convince myself to make a custom j arm for it and also a custom drag link. problem is the only welder i have is a stick, and i have no clue how to use it. any tips or techniques would help me greatly.

baconator

red box is your front shackle.  please note how vertical it is compared to the rear.  after your front springs settle that angle will tilt back.  i would suggest looking for a forklift or ramp or something to flex your suspension out.  it looks like you might have some problems with the front shocks bottoming out under compression.  :headscratch: why are you thinking of making a custom j arm and drag link?  or are you talking about flipping the ball?

I dont think i will have probs with the shocks bottoming. i might, but i doubt it. i hit some pretty deep whoops the other night at like 30 and it was ok. but there is a possibility and i will cross that bridge when it gets to me i guess. and i was only confused about the angle, you said it looked steep so i was not following that haha. anyways, it should settle out i guess, but it rides pretty good right now, so only time will tell. thanks for the comments though. and as far as steering goes, i was thinking about making the j arm a little bit longer and making it stronger, even though it is usually the ball that snaps, but who knows with the stuff i wheel over. and the drag link i was thinkin bout just making it longer rather than spending 200 on a new adjustable one.

you need bumpstops on the front...do it now before you ruin a shock or a spring

thanks. ya that is another part of my plan too. just gotta get some funds. tryin to purchase a welder so we will see how all this pans out.

nvtoyin21

Sweet ride man! What kind of welder do you plan on purchasing?

84solidaxletoy

My plan was to get a miller 112 or whatever i forget the size but i wanted it to be a mig 220 volt. but i had to settle with a little flux cored/mig from lincoln for now and its only a 110 but i need to learn anyways so i figured it would be a good one for now and once i get good, i can turn that one into a tack welder and use a bigger one for running full beads.

nvtoyin21

Lincolns do the job just fine. You still should be able to run gas argon/co2 on the little 110. At least most of them are universal flux/gas. I had a 120 mig hobart that was 110 plug in that kicked  :butt:. It was an old finally took a crap, so I went an recently bought a miller 130 mig 110 plug in. I dont like it as much as the hobart and if I had to done her twice, I would have done the 220 plug in. Still diggin the toy too! Keep up the work man.  :afro2: :bananabeer:

84solidaxletoy

you are correct about the argon. i have the regulator and everythin, i figured that since it came with a spool of flux i might as well use it up while tryin to learn. so far so good. did some weldin at work today on a trailer. i weld every chance i get so it should be good. thanks for the positive feedback. i was thinkin bout gettin a hobart plasma cutter... what are your thoughts??

Nice 84, it has the same paint job as my 85 Runner. I am digging your spare tire carrier, that is badass. Keep us posted on how the beast turns out

thanks. i am sure you know that i painted the black on my own :) and i figured it would look sweet with the stickers black as well. just gotta do the other side, but need to fix an axle leak b4 i do that since it will fish eye the crap outta the paint. and thanks for the comments on the spare mount.

84solidaxletoy

Just to give an update, i found some stock hubs for 20 bucks, put those on. Gonna keep my warn hubs in the tool box for emergencies. put some bilstien shocks up front. strengthened my rear tire mount. if anyone has ideas to make it stronger let me know. and the reason being is because it swivels open therefore it is not solid mounted on both sides of the bed the side that opens is definitely a weak point. but I think i came up with a good set up. now i have to lengthen my driveshaft a couple of inches and finally ill get to use 4x4 again.

Ya, to your question! Im a hobart fan all the way. But the one I had was old enough that it wasnt made by miller. So if its a hobart now, its miller. Still a good chioce though. I know that they make them with built in air compressors now too.

nvtoyin21

:think:Also I forgot to ask you, Where did you find your seats? I like the style. Who makes them and what does a pare run for?

84solidaxletoy

I picked them up for 200 bucks a piece. they are made by prp. they are suspension as well. they are really comfortable too. i did not price shop however, simply because i was on vacation in california and i figured 200 was a great price. I got them from off-road warehouse. you can go to their website and i beleive its even cheaper when bought on the internet...shipping might be a lot though unless you live near one. the link is www.offroadwarehouse.com they might not be on their site, but give them a call.

nvtoyin21

Vacation in Cali........ you go to the round up? Thanks for the info on the seats, might end up getting me a pair.

84solidaxletoy

no...just went to get outta this hot weather. what round up are you speaking of?
