good points, the tranny cooler has expanded metal protecting it from sticks, also the fan relay is on a switch for the dep florida water scuba lessons, nothin else.the air tank is pretty strong, one being thicker metal, two being round and long configuration.the air tank will protect the fuel tank and tranny cooler if the driveshaft ever let go,plus its up behind the d-shaft and pretty high.i am going to build a stainless skid plate to protect the fuel cell more, maybe even somehow the t-cooler beside it.helpin my buddy think out and build his tj was hard because of less space for all the aux items.it can be done but wheelin in trees and mud and water leaves extra concerns.but thats half the fun of buildin is thinkin.thanks later

Gonna be cool man, I have never seen a tube step side, I cant wait to see how it comes out.  Are you going to diamond plate a skin over the step side portion?

stainless 3/16th rivets where the side and bottom come together, then stainless 1/4 -20 buttonhead bolts on crossmembers and sides.the bulkhead will have angle iron at the top for support and a lide edge.the tailgate will have  diamond plate too.any thoughts on the steering ram.no one has said anything..thanks later

I was looking at your steering setup earlier but didnt have time to ask qs.   But do you have any better pics,  how is it mounted above the axle?  It has to be mounted very stout since you mounted on the inner part of the highsteer arm there will be much more torque on it when turning.  It appears to be a full hydro ram?  I mounted mine doube shear on the axle and on the tie rod, not that its the only way to do it, but just what I did....  I would love to se some close ups and differant angles..

its double sheer 3/4 in grd8 bolt, the plate is 5/16th, lots of gussiting.yes full hydro .im thinkin somehow of double sheer on the steering arm too.ill have better pics tommorrow.

So you have a vertical 5/16 in plate off the axle tube?   Even with gussets off it I would worry a bit about it.  There is alot of stress with full hydro and lockers and big tires, another thing to think about is maybe getting a piece of halfin thich 3.5in square tube notch the bottom so it cradles the top of the axle, weld it up and put a nice little cap on it.  Again I am commenting without seeing real detailed pics of how you have it set up on the axle side but IMO it would be much stronger and more  capable of handing the shear and torsional forces of your steering setup.

the plate runs down the top  of the axle tube, its about 10in long.then the gusseting will tie to the ends and middle wrapping down around the tube. then im gonna box it in.kinda similar to the sqaure tube idea.the ram is running parallel as possible to the tie rod.hopefully reducing twisting stress.

Sounds good, looks like you have done your homework, cant wait to see how it turns out.  I did also want to ask you about skinning the rear fender wells,  I am going to be building fenders simular to that for the front of my jeep that I will skin (cause its a flattie), but I was thinking I was going to have to build a duplicate outline to the outer fender to stick in close to the body for support to the inner portion of the skin.  Are you doing something like this or did you have something else in mind?

im gonna try to cover it with 16gauge metal like a regular stepside....try to follow the curves.hoping.then tack it to the tubing so if i dent it i can replace it.

Thats cool, I am actually going to go with some 1/8 in diamond plate and run it smooth side up, I want it to be strong enough to stand on if I need to, as well as take a beating.  I was also thinking I would build a whole frame, and then build brackets to hold it on sturdy, then If I know I am going to be in tight spots I can pull them off and dont have to worry about banging them up.
