Chevelle or TR7?
« on: Aug 14, 2007, 11:10:26 PM »
i have a TR7 that is about running. and i can get Chevelle body, frame, and a watever else i can salvage, problem is i can only get 1. if i keep the TR7 i will either set it up for drag/drift or lift it n 4x4 it (probably the first choice) and if i get the chevelle i will restore it and set it up for drag. im leaning towards the chevelle....cause its a chevelle, but the TR7 with a little work would make a good daily driver and a nice sleeper. what do you think?

Reading the title and starting to read the thread I was already saying chevelle......till I saw the pic.  That's not the style of chevelle most people will associate with speed or cool.  That's like when a guy tells you he has a vette, then you find out it's a chevette :haha:  I'd go with the triumph, doesn't look too bad.

Everyone I known who has had a Triumph has always said: Its almost running. Seriously both those cars are abortions that need a date with the crusher.

Mid to late 70s by the looks of it. The Chevelle went down hill after '72 and that's definately not a '72 or prior. Do the TR7, those year Chevelle and Cutlass' are boats.

Saweet.... , thanks for helpin me with the mental image....

I guess really it all depends on how much money you have to spend on either one of them. I have seen crazy Triumph's pull some amazing number's on track.... and then again i have seen some twin turbo cutless' tear it up... The latter years in Chevelle's went down hill fast... as in HP and the modeling (yuck).... it's all up to you... but in my one opinion, take the TR7

The mid 70s Chevelles aren't too bad when they are built. A pro street clone would be nice but your example looks like a huge project. Here is a 73 that is decent:

But most mid 70s Chevelles that I have seen are low riders:

Take the Chevelle and put a 12 valve Cummins in it. 800hp and 1100lbs of torque...probably the only one in town.

It's those huge ugly 70's-80's bumpers that make them so fugly, look at the lines of the car itself. Just like the Jags they are selling today, the ones shipped here are so damn ugly it's silly but look at one from Europe they are art. Not that I like them but they do look sweet.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings at all.  :shake: But if I HAD to choose (if there was a gun to my head) I would build the Chevy. :cheese:
Now the question is would you run in this? Again some people say "fugly"... :dunno:

Well, it's not my favorite, but its a hell of a lot better looking than the Chevelle.  It says, "Hey, I've got class", not, "Hey look at my big ugly  :moon:"

I remember back in high school, my friend told me he was inheriting a Chevelle Malibu that was in good shape.  I was excited for him until he showed up to school in a '72 4-door that was root-beer brown with a cream top.  It was in pretty good shape, but no one would ride with him cause it wasn't cool looking.  It said nothing other than "I am a grandma car, and only a grandma car"
