Yeah, I am sure the hikers have been eroding the granite. Just like the glaciers did I am sure ::) ::) ::)

Better ban all foot travel in all forests and just leave it to the animals, oh wait, deer hoofs cause erosion.... :slap:

:shake:

*FFC*

Why the heck did God put rocks on earth? Shame on him :slap: They're just going to get walked on and eroded :shake:

The full article was in reference to how 9 hikers have fallen from the cables since 1972, of these 3 were fatal and these three fatalities being within the last year.

So the article suggests making a better way to get to the top.

And listen, I've been to the top of Quarter Dome only to turn around because there was a 2 hour wait to even get to the cables. So I am ALL FOR an ADDITIONAL ROUTE up, like a 2nd lane if you will, but for goodness sake, DO NOT REMOVE THE ORIGINAL CABLES! ITS WHY THE TRAIL IS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR HIKING TRAILS IN THE WORLD! ITS A CHALLENGE YOU MUST BE WILLING TO TAKE!

If someone is complaining about the only route being over crowded, then I can relate. Add a second route.

If someone is complaining about the cables being too "dangerous" THEN DON'T HIKE THE TRAIL YOU MORON, GO BACK TO THE VALLEY

No need to apoligize Mike.  People have become such freakin' wussies that they want everything to be "Safe" or something.  I personally think they are after "stupid proof" because they don't want to responsible for their own stupid actions.

:yesnod:  as sad as it is, we've turned into a society of irresponsible, lazy, self centered jerks.  As for the cables, I've been up there, I've used them, and not had a problem :dunno:  they also have "stairs" if you will, boards strung on the granite in the steeper areas to wedge your foot against.  I'm sorry, but 9 falls from the cables in the past 25 years, and only 3 fatalities?  Thats not bad stats considering the amount of people that use them every year.  It is sad, but I'm willing to bet that the people that fell we screwing around, and did it to themselves.

There is an easy solution to this problem, remove the cables and the wooden steps.  If it was harder and more dangerous to hike, say an average of 3 deaths a summer, the foot traffic would be significantly reduced.

You have to consider the source that you got the article from.  The Fresno Bee is very liberal and always post liberal point of views.
