Made some ground straps!!
« on: Aug 02, 2007, 10:19:34 PM »
I wanted to replace the ground wires on my truck, and nobody had large enough gauge of wire I wanted.  So, I remember'd I had a box of old wires from my loud stereo days.  So, I put it all to good use!  So, what ya think!  I used some 7 gauge monster cable speaker wire!

Looks good, and the heat shrink is a nice touch!

Did you solder the connectors on, or just crimp?  I like to get a good mechanical connection (crimp), then solder.
I just don't trust a crimp only, because corrosion can eventually lead to a poor connection.
My goal in life is to be as a good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

If you don't learn something every day, you're not paying attention.

Crimp followed up by solder!  I tried to do a water proof connection, like described by the engineers at work.  Which is to put a coating of liquid tape on the connection and then heat shrink.  But as the shrink shrunk, the liquid tape oozed out and caught on fire!  So, I just stayed with just the heat shrink!

Thats another reason I used the monster cable speaker wire.   Excellent conductivity from the softer and pliable wire!
