Topic: 97 4runner sounds funny in rev.

I have a 97 4runner sr5 5spd. Sounds great 1-5th and shifts smooth but when I put it in reverse It sounds almost like an electric motor whine. It also seems to be the most noticeable in h4 and L4. Now don't flame the noob but I'm new to personally owning yotas and I cant remember any others Ive driven sounding like this. So am I just worrying about nothing or what?

I've got a 98 4runner, and I hear the gear whine also.  It seems normal to me.

I think the noise is from the way the gears are cut.  1-5 are helical gears.  Reverse and your transfer case are straight cut gears.  The straight cut are stronger but noisier.  The helical gears wear slower, and are quieter.   ... I think.
