90 4Runner SAS New Pics
« on: Jul 10, 2007, 08:39:45 PM »
Its been a couple years since I sold my last rig.  Finally picked up a new yota, and can't wait to start the build up!  Its a 90 4Runner, with a 22RE (NO 3.0 V6 THANK GOD!) and a 5 speed.  So far, this is a list of planned mods:

SAS front with all yota parts 5:29 Aussie
Marlin 4" springs front & rear
Bilstein shocks
86 Up rear axle, 5:29 Detroit
37" IROK Radials
Dual Ultimate T-cases
W56 Tranny Swap

I'm sure there will be alot more, unfortunately I'm pretty sure the tranny and t-case are junk as they are the V6 versions with chain t-case!  Still trying to figure out what tranny to swap in to avoid extra adapters.  Should have some pics of the stock rig in a few days!

if your tranny is the stock 1990 4cyl that came in the 4-door,, it's a G-58,, with a chain drivin t-case,,,

I have the same rig,, I swapped in a turbo R151 to mate to my 23 spline dual t-cases,, it works very well, !! and you can bolt up Marlin's dual t-case crossmember,,,

there is a good deal on POR from a friend of mine for a R151 set up

You are right, just found out I have that POS tranny, & a chain driven t-case!  I was hoping I could use the stuff that came with it!!  Thanks for the lead, sent him a PM on Pirate.  Any idea how flexible he is on the price?

Will post a few pics of the stock rig shortly, just ordered the first parts from Marlin, 4" springs & hanger kit.  I'm looking for an 84-85 front axle to stick under this thing.  If anyone has one or knows someone who does, PLEASE help me out!

Good and bad news, got a front axle now, the runner just failed smog!  :smack:  Pretty pissed off right now as it has a brand new motor and runs great.  Here are the pics I've been lagging on.  Once I get my next paycheck, its SAS time!

hey armen
good looking truck.  can't wait to see all the ifs cut out.  you should try to get it done in time to go on the rubicon in september.  i'll get the rearend out of my parents shed this weekend when i move back and clean it up.  i was checking out the backing plates and they look pretty straight.  the brakes looked new on them too.  one of the drums is missing though.  we can use the ones off of the runner so you have a good set.
gotta get back to packing.

Update:

Runner is smogged, and registered!  Welding on the front hanger and putting in frame tubes on Thursday.  Should have some pics of the SAS progress in a few days.  Also need to order a ton of stuff from Marlin!

Made some progress today, welded up the front drop box, and cut out the holes for the frame tubes!  Planning on torching out the IFS this Sunday!

Quick ? are you ordering the full kit from marlin or are ordering it a few parts at a time ? Didn't know if I should go that route since im using it as a daily driver and dont got alot of money to do this at one point. Great pics and runner you got there. Can't wait to see the finish product.

Update:

Just dropped about $1300 with Marlin!  Should have pretty much everything to dial in the front & rear suspension!  Hopefully pulling out the torch anyday to get rid of the crappy IFS!

Got all the IFS torched out, still grinding and cleaning things up.  Have pics, so I need to post them up.  Does anyone know if the stock axles/brakes out of my 4Runner will slide into a 86 up pickup rear housing?

Getting the coils torched out of the rear!  For anyone considering going to leafs in the rear, I got these measurements from CJ @ Marlin for the hangers:

Edit: 29" back from center of torsion bar bracket to front of weld on hanger

54.5" between center of weld on hanger & center of shackle hanger

A special thanks to my buddy mplatzer for handling the hot wrench for me!
