Good machine shop in SoCal? Please help!!!
« on: Jul 10, 2007, 05:53:15 PM »
 8) Hi ! Newbee here. with some noob questions.

I was debating myself between buying a rebuilt eng from reputable company like ATK or rebuilt myself.
I've never rebuilt motor before. But I decided to give it a try. :shake:

I have 87 runner with 22re & I just bought a core long block for $100.
My runner runs OK with existing motor so I want to take time and build it right little by little.
I decided to go with EB's head & cam so I just need to rebuild lower end.

Here's my questions.

1. Does anybody know a good machine shop in SoCal?

2. What are the approx. estimate for preparing block, crank & rods?

3. For dollar to performance and/or reliability matter, Is it better to go with new crank & rods ? or remachine them?

4. What should I look for or be caustious when I'm selecting machine shop?

5. And last, what size is the best? (.020  .040 ETC...)

Any comments would greatly help.. Thanks
