I thought I had a post on this but maybe not. Anyway since my name is still listed as a mod here and I try to contribute when I can I figure I might as well share my project too..

It's a 1963 International Scout..

Why not a yota? Well that's easy - I put a V8 in my yota and dana axles so really it wasn't much of a yota. I was spoiled by the torque but with two kids I needed a back seat. I coulda built a runner but it would need a V8 so I figure with it so custom I might as well go presmog. Scouts also have removable tops and a fold down windshield.

Some interesting stuff..

- the body width is the exact same as my toyota - 66"
- length is approximately a foot shorter, actually as much as two depending on how I build the bumpers and my truck was shortened A LOT - when I took off the bed
- It is a 63, not too interesting till ya hear my jeep was a 53. Our bug is a 73, my truck is an 83, and my ZJ was a... 93

original specs
0 to 60 mph in 20.1 sec

Standing quarter mile in 21.7mph @ 62mph

Top speed 78.3

This is a field test done on a 1961 scout in 1961 152ci 4 cyl 3spd manual, 6.50*15 tiers and 4.27 diff ratio


Here is the quick run down of what I plan to do with it (or allready have)..


Engine/Cooling/Exhaust/Fuel System - HO 5.0 w/Northern aluminum radiator, Saginaw steering pump, 180 amp 3G alternator, BBK air intake kit, FlowKooler hi-flow water pump, stainless rad hoses, Competition Cams Timing set, ARP bolts and studs, etc..
Drivetrain/Clutch - C6/203/300
Suspension - front: wagoneer springs and 5125's, rear: wagonner springs and 5125's
Axles/Brakes - Front HP HD 44 w/6 lug outers and arb, Rear disk (with ebrake calipers) 35 spline moser shafted HD D60 w/arb
Interior - Stock Dash, stock lo-backs, full cage, etc
Steering - hi-steer with GM stuff
Wheels/Tires - 15x10" mags with 37" MTR's.


In addition the main change will be a mostly STOCK body, and.. a back seat!

It's pretty much all custom so I have pics of everything and believe it or not it was a LOT harder to get the V8 into the scout than it was to get into my toyota..

That pic in the garage was taken just a week or so ago. It has driveshafts, roll cage, axles all built with ARB's, 5.0 is mounted (had to extend the frame and redo body mounts to get that in), all suspension hangers mounted but not fully welded. I guess I am ready to tear it all down and make her purty..

  sorry dude.  I remember seeing this thing as a big pile of parts one of the first times (mabye it was the first time? ) I came over.  Its definitely come a long way.  Can't wait to see it finished

that was when I thought I'd be done before the next wheelin season.. two seasons ago LOL

Who knows, I've learned not to commit to anything..

I sold my ZJ so I can dedicate more time to the scout, still need to buy some stuff (wiring harness, shocks, material for sliders n bumpers, upholstry for seats, seat belts, steering column joints, fuel lines, paint, etc etc etc - the little stuff adds up..

ive seen slant 6's  in dodges  but never a slant 4

ahh I'm slow, you mean better than just recutting the fender - I've done that on a few rigs, trying to make this one a bit cleaner.

that is what came in mine, slant and offset - making putting in the 5.0 a major job!

bob would be to shorten, I lengthened the opening but kept the location of the far back the same as before. Sort of a bob but like taking the section you get when you bob and putting it right in the middle of the wheel well thereby stretching the wheel well but keeping the overall length the same - comprende?

Did you get the drivetrain all set up yet? IIRC, when I was over there last, you were still having some clearance issues.

Its looking sweet though 

I had to cut the tranny pan to fit the driveline and I haven't patched it back up yet but the driveshafts are on and the drivetrain is pretty much set, tight clearances but it should be fine.

I chopped the rear shackles in half, made a jig and rewelded them with the little dogleg to make up for the johnny joint this weekend. Sounds minor but it took forever..

The crossmember bolts to the spring perches on each side - I hope it doesn't rip them off or shear the bolt holding the springs on..

3 years since I posted this and I am still not wheeling this thing. On bright side family is good, when I am not working I am with my kids..

Anyway - hope to crash the roundup this year
