The Toyota Trekker was a rare hybrid of Toyota Truck, sort of a forerunner to the 4Runner. This is conversion number 681 by Winnebago, it's estimated that only 1200-1400 Trekkers were ever shipped to the United States.

-The good: 1981 with carbureted 22R, L52 5speed Transmission, solid axle, odometer broke at 80,000...I've gotten two mechanics opinions on the mileage, one thought it was around 100,000 and another thought it was closer to 200,000. Motor feels very strong, uses very little oil (I add a quart every 3 or 4 weeks). Truck does not leak anything.
-SR5 package, pop-up moon roof, all gauges work, aftermarket (I think Acura Integra?) front seats with lumbar adjustment and all that good stuff.
-About 2.5 inches of lift achieved through add-a-leafs all around, 33x12.50 General Grabber MTs on 10 inch 3spoke wheels, tires will probably need to be replaced before winter.
-New clutch slave cylinder.
-Cobra compact CB Radio with mounted PA speaker and antenna.
-Underbody and frame is all in remarkable shape for a 26 year old truck, not much rust on the body and it starts every time at the turn of the key.
-Pretty cool steel rear bumper

-The Bad: Does not come with rear seats...I had plans to mount some out of a 3rd Gen LandCruiser, but I left it open back there because I ended up moving so many tires, etc...for a smaller SUV type truck, it is rather spacious without the rear seats.
-Small leak where fiber top meets back of the cab.
-Needs to have some carb work done, will not hold idle without giving it gas unless it's been revved to 3k+...then it won't die. Carb will need to be pulled off and cleaned.
-Rear tailgate latch broke off, tailgate still stays shut but bangs around while driving around, needs a new latch made and bolted to the fiber in the back.
-Lifted very mildly, but it still rides around like a lifted leaf sprung Toyota. Has no problems pushing the 33 inch tires to 70mph...it's just not a real pleasant ride.

-The Ugly: Inside top of the fiberglass top is kind of gross looking, moisture over the years has left it looking grimy...I didn't take a pic of it but it looks like it needs help.
-Also, I haven't bothered pulling off the purple rear window tint, as you'll see in the pics.
-Door panels are not stock but are the same carpeting that is used in the floor of the truck, ugly grey carpeting. It works, and it matches the seats...but it's still ugly.

I think I've covered everything, make an offer. Let me know if you have any questions...i'm in Southern MN.

I'm 19 years old and this is my sixth first gen Toyota truck, always progressively older. The more I've been thinking about getting a newer Tacoma with the 2.7, the more I started thinking about letting the Trekker go.

Asking price? Make an offer.

Where are you located? Or did I miss that part? :gap:

final bump...make an offer! i am surprised that a good running clean Trekker hasn't generated more interest...just for the record it is still available.

89toy

put up an asking price...people can work with an actual #...just saying "make an offer" usually won't sell anything.  This truck has definitly generated interest, but nobody wants to sit and think about what to offer you (probably don't want to offend you and also don't want to be screwed).

You are crazy. You would be lucky to get 1000$. It is not that clean. Call me if you need to get rid of it fast.

call him crazy and then ask if he wants to sell it to you for cheaper...hmmmmm...little odd.  I have seen trekkers go for 5 that were a little nicer than this one.  If someone would buy a non-running 4 runner for 1500, this will sell...give it time

Sorry cole I really think i can get more than 1,000 for it

thebigsib20

you could easily get more than 1,000 for it, just be patient, it's worth whatever people are willing to pay, stick to your gut in a chat room like this, i have a feeling the people who are trying to tell you your asking too much will be the first to offer for it.  Nice rig by the way, I just hope you don't kick yourself in the butt a few years down the road for selling a rare truck you practically sold, don't forget we all saw what YOU payed for it!... if I were you, I would keep this thing, just work and save for half a year and you will have saved more than what you're asking for it, and you can always keep that around for when you're in the mood, i don't think you will regret that rout, lol but i am interested.

89toy

just out of curiosity...what did you pay for it?  (not trying to be nosey, and if you don't want to tell thats cool)  it would be cool to see it built for the rocks...I've never come across a trekker on the trail.

i don't mind telling anyone that I paid 600 dollars for the truck...the previous owner didn't know what it was and didn't like it because it had no 'get up and go' in contrast with his chevy truck.

since then, i've had the motor checked out, new alternator, small add-a-leaf lift, mounted 33 inch tires and basically cleaned it all up to make it a comfortable daily-driver, weekend warrior rig (it was his hunting and fishing truck so the interior was totally litered with trash and now its nice)

it's easy to say i cleaned it up and i'm trying to turn a profit out of it,  but i would just as soon keep it if i don't get what i want out of it. to have the trekker after i get past all my money problems would truly be the ideal goal because it is such a rare find and to still run as well as it does makes it worth every bit of what i'm asking, i dont think too many could disagree.

You guys can say all you want about the truck. I have seen it, crawled underneath it, and driven it. I bet those trekkers that went for 5k were not rusted out and not from Minnesota, and did not have missing interiors and rotten frames. I hope you get more out of it but I don't think you will get as much as you like. Maybe you can find some sucker out west to give you 5k like these boys are claiming.
