Hey guys, I'm Andrew, I'm new here. CUrrently I have a 1970 Chevelle SS, and I have been looking for a truck. I found a 1986 Toyota with a Straight Axle and EFI, with a 4in Lift and 33's on craigslist for $400.... all it needs is front brake pads (or so I'm told)

Here is the link
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/car/347584910.html

What do ya'll Think? What should I look for?

sounds like an awesome deal.... i would first find out a couple things though, it seems a little too cheap..... wondering if its got back registration issues or anything like that.... 86s didnt have a solid axle, they had ifs, however it might have been a late in the yar 85 truck, which is cool as well.... i dont think they were marketed as an 86 if it has a solid axle though.... someone could have SAS it though and that would be fine

ya that sounds like a great deal..some people would pay more than that just for the front axle

Anyway, that sounds like a "too good to be true" deal.  If its legitimate, its worth jumping on just for parts.  AS for looking at it, go test drive it, and doo a good walk around/crawl underneath.  Look for leaks, rust on the frame, freshly painted areas (could be hiding rust, cracks, leaks, etc.)  look for general wear and tear.  Put it in 4wd, and drive it.  Listen for any noise coming from the t-case, transmission, diffs, etc.  Check for any wobbling or vibrations, both in 2wd and 4wd.  Check for everything working in the cab, lights, a/c (if equiped) etc.  Don't trust the seller, check everything for yourself.  If the seller gets uncomfortable, or tries to steer you away from a certain area, that is usually a sign that you're oo close to something they don't want you to really look at.  Ask for any and all records of the vehicle.  Also, for something that cheap, I'd check into the registration, if its been out, and how long, and I'd confirm that the seller is the owner.  That is a screaming deal if all it needs are brake pads.

Wow that was fast, thanks guys, I just found it today, and when I saw it my jaw hit the floor. I REALLY want to get it because the 350 in the Chevelle just isn't cutting it on gas. and I'm starting a business and need something to haul my equipment. So I'm gonna email the guy for some pics in a sec.

BTW what does SAS mean? I'm new to crawling and especially Toyotas... I;m a Chevy boy by birth and association, so I need as much help as I can get

DanS

Any idea on mileage, it's not a small block chevy but a well tuned 22Re will give you moderate performance!  :yesnod:

A 3RZ is a good step up, but in time Grasshopper. It could also be a V6 3.0L. Ask Blackdog about those. :tantrum:

Tell you the truth, I'm only 17 and only have my Chevelle. And before you say anything, my parents did not pay for it, I did and I built it in my driveway, I have a stack of recipts, and can tell you everything I have done and where I bought it from.

I say that becasue I have never owned a Toyota, but my dad used to have a 99 camry with the sport package. The only other 4X4 we have is our 01 Ford Excursion with the 7.3L Powerstroke, that is lifted 6in with 36's

nothing wrong with that

i want a excursion with the 7.3 lifted about 6" with 35s... thats my dream truck/family hualer/towrig
