Engine Stand - 22R Total Weight?
« on: Jun 09, 2007, 02:09:53 AM »
Good morning,
Maybe someone could assist.  I'm considering purchasing an engine stand for rebuilding a 22R and don't want to spend more money than necessary.  Harborfreight.com has a 750 lbs stand for $40.  Does anybody know the approx Total weight of a 22R?

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=32915

Any Help would greatly be appreciated, Thanks in advance.

That on should be fine I have one like  that with a 350 chevy on it now. I dont know how much they weigh but it is less than 750. I do like the 1000 lb one because it has 4 wheels but if your on a budget the 750 lb will work.

Check your local craigslist too, I see engine stands on there all the time.

But those are China pounds and you need to convert them to U.S.

One of my coworkers put his 350 Chevy on a harbor freight engine stand. He awoke one night to the sound of a terrible crash, freaking stand snapped at all the yoke welds dumping his engine on to his tool tote and his pocket bike nearby.

Total damage

1. Craftsman tool tote $60.00

1 Pocket bike $350

1 Small block oil pan, harmonic balancer and headers I guess about $300 I never did ask him

5 Months, you need to get going. Are you going to rebuild it?

my friend has a chain hoist that he uses to pull engines. but i guess you couldn't really rotate the engine like with a stand. it works good though.
lets not and say we did.

get the 1000lbs stand. I'm using a kragen 1000lbs stand and it feels light weight enough. we had a small block on it and it felt pretty weak. with the 22/20r engine it's just about right. you need the 4 wheels if your going to roll it outside and paint your engine. with any stand make sure you use good bolts to mount your engine to the stand.

this stand has 4 wheels to roll. a lot like the harbor freight 1000lbs.

Ive picked up a 22r and put it in the back of a flatbed fullsize by myself, no way that engine ways anywhere close to 750

any engine stand should be fine for the 22r, More than adequate

yeah a 22r only weighs around 300 lbs. a small block longblock only weighs around 450lbs. and I'd say that the small block we had on the kragen 1000lbs stand, only weighed 600lbs with the cast iron manifolds and marine gear on it.. but it flexed pretty crazy when we had to roll it across the shop. i like the extra wheel because i have to move across uneven surfaces. just something to think about

at harbor freight here in humboldt today the 750lbs cost 37.99 and the 1000lbs cost 54.99.  that's pretty cheap for tools these days.

I got the same one off craigslist for $25!  Some rich guy bought a crate motor and just needed it to paint the engine, decided to sell it right after.  I have 2 other 3 wheelers that aren't very heavy duty with r series engines on em and no problems.
