its up to you... and what you want to do to it..... most people here daily drive their rigs and go 34 wheeling a lot. others dont....

if i had an 88 runner i would SAS it and not waste $ on an IFS lift, but thats because I care about its offroadability

all an ifs lift does is move everything further down via brackets and lets you put on bigger tires

no harder than installing all  the brackets  and crap  from the ifs lift

and  you will have a much stronger,  much more wheelable  rig

now  if  all you care about  is  the bigger tires  cause it "just looks  cool"   then  just get the ifs lift  and  crawl those mall  speed bumps

Do what you can afford. An ifs lift for $300 isn't bad considerering that is 1/2 the price of new. A sas kit from Marlin is $1500 not including shipping or installation & you still have to get a front axle & front drive shaft. If you going to do a sas with in a year then don't waste your money on the ifs.  If your going to run 35's than do a sas  :twocents:

Bigger isn't always better. I have a buddy that is running 31's & another buddy that is running 33's & they have no problems. Depends on what type of wheeling your doing  :twocents:

not necessarily!!!! its allllll about the driver!!!! do the SAS and start getting some experience!!! you will appreciate the live axles a lot more than a damn lifted IFS!!! I'm torching mine off in july and dropping an 85 axle, superlongs, elocker, 5.29s marlins 5 inch springs dual cases, i want my rig to last and be very capable!! and now i am in the process of getting an 84 with a 4 inch all pro lift, 35's, 12 inch bobbed bed, and dual cases for my dads 85 for less than $2000!!!! sorry, little off topic!!! but seriously you'll thank everyone that talked you into a SAS!!!!!!!! DO IT!

:werd:

$300 is a pretty good deal for an IFS lift.  If you're fairly new to the wheelin, I'd go with that for now, you can run 35"s with it, no problem, and you'll learn a lot.  As yo ulearn, you'll figure out your trucks limitations, and decide whether you really need a SAS or not.  Then, once you get to that point, you'll probably have more wrenching experience, and be ready to dig into it

yeah, depends on how much experience you've got and what kind of wheeling you are most interested in!!

Just wheel that IFS till it breaks. Do you know how to weld and have a welder? Or at least have a buddy who does? That will determine how much cash its going to take you to SAS. I would personally SAS cause first you're out 300 for the IFS lift, then tires, then think of all the stuff you are going to break up front on that drivetrain and suspension. If you get to the point where you are going to put a locker up front eventually to keep up with you're buddies then I'd go SAS for sure.

Not really, I've got a good amount of experience, and I wheel mostly rocks (my 3.0 is allergic to mud) and I've still got the IFS.  I'm going to run it until its bent and tweaked to the point that it isn't safe to run, then go to the IFS.  I've broken a few halfshafts, but I've seen just as many birfs pop on the same obstacles, and personally, I'd rather replace a halfshaft on the trail than a birf.  Its all about being smart and knowing the rig.  The "less capable" a rig you start with, the more you learn.    Granted, a SA with longs, elocker, 5.29s etc. will give you more flex and articulation for rockcrawling.  Eventually I'll have one.

Personally, I'd put the $$ toward dual cases, if you're low and slow, you'll go many places the big boys can, and it doesn't really matter whether its IFS or SA.

If you have to ask, you probably don't need either.

Lockers will take you MUCH farther than a lift ever will.

i say if you are new go with the ifs lift to fit the bigger tires and jsut wheel and learn how to wheel and all the dos and donts and limitations of your truck then sas it when you break the ifs to much i ran my 4runner for years with jsut 33's and i went ALOT of places with jsut the rear welded too i lifted it wnet a couple more places but not much of a difference i wheeled the crap out of my ifs before i went with my sas jsut to learn what i needed to and feel comfortable with the truck! if you have the money sas it i guess but if you are new spend the 300 and do the lift just my :twocents: i can keep up with trucks with 40's and locked front and rear no problem with my 35's and rear locker its jsut alot of the driver aswell as the truck learn then step it up!

Honestly if your going to DD the thing i wouldn't make this your first SAS project. Maybe do a friends if you know what i mean, cause if you f something up or snap a bead your bu tt is grass. And yes a lincoln locker will dramatically effect the ride and tire wear. Why do you think im running open in the rear, not for my health i can assure you that. Save your money if this truly is a DD and buy a lockrite for the front, some good tires, maybe a lil torsion/shackle lift and wait on the SAS. Then you can throw down for some ARB's and Longs. :) like someone already mentioned good tires and locker will get you much further that a lift will. and a lockrite from Randy;s R&P is 287 out the door. so think on it. GOOD Luck!

I got 36's on my truck with IFS. It's got a limited in the front. Im mostly into mud but like going where ever I can find some fun, snow, sand or rocks. Works good and I can pretty much keep up with my buddies who are SAS'd or V8's. Ive broken a total of 2 axles and 1 short shaft in the two years I've had it. Ive been fortunate to find axles at no more than 20 bucks a pop. Just the time to replace them is spent. Not posting to convince you, just giving you and idea. I guess when i get enough cash together I'll probably SAS my truck eventually,in the meanwhile enjoy what I have.

Don't weld the rear. Spend the $300 on a locker for the rear & weld the front. Our going to do a sas anyway  :twocents:
