Quick Ring and Pinion question
« on: Jun 02, 2007, 02:08:46 AM »
I have an 85 4runner with a V6 pick up rear axle out of what I am 99% sure was an 88. I am going to buy an Aussie Locker for out back but looking on their site they have it listed for two rear axles for toyota pickups

-  69-95 30 spline rear axle with an 8" ring gear
-  86-95 27 spline rear axle with a 7.5" ring gear

So which do I have?  :headscratch: I had thought that all 4x4 toyota pickups/4runners had 8 inch ring gears and were 30 spline in the rear axle. I am guessing the 7.5 ring gear was used in 2wds.... Is there a way to verify what ring gear I have?

Here is the Aussie Locker page for Toyotas:

I am almost 100% sure you will need the 30 spline unless they changed something for the worse in the latter years.

I don't recall there being an upgrade axle for the rear with larger splines.

The 8" is the 4wd & that is what you have.
The 7.5" is the 2wd your right.

Ahh damnit. Well so much for that. Looks like I'm just going to weld it until I can afford an ARB.

I'm not positive on this.  Give the US customer service # a call, and check for sure.  I could have sworn they had one out for v6 diffs now.

This is per a conversation on pirate directly from Aussie Locker>>>

"Per our telephone discussion, the V6 Toyota Aussie Locker is in manufacturing but the build has not been completed. We will post here when we know that they are at the freight forwarder in Australia. We apologize we are unable to provide an Aussie Locker for your Toyota at this time."

Thanks for the heads up. I think I will give them a call and see what the status is. I need a locker in the next month or two so if they dont have it by then I will probably just weld it.
