clicking up front?
« on: May 26, 2007, 07:37:55 PM »
i went wheeling one day and after i got out of the trail i hear clicking coming from the front of the truck.  since then ive changed the driveshaft hoping that would fix it but its still the same.  it sounds like its coming from the right side.  what is more like,  a hub or a birfield?  is there any obvious ways to check which is bad?  any help would be greatly appreciated.  thanks

When I had a ticking up front after wheeling.  It was my hubs not fully disengaging (they were auto though), not sure what you have.  Either way sounds like it will be taking that area apart.

yeah i have manual locking hubs.  the hub on the side its clicking on is suspect so i might take a look at it first.  its real rough compared to any other truck ive everhad.  feels like there is no grease in it or something.  ill have to tear it open tomorrow.  thanks a lot.

is it clicking all the time or only when th hub is engaged? My runner has a click all the time and when I tore into it I found out it was the brake pad slopping around on the caliper. Just a thought....

One of my stock birfields had a spot in it where it would get stuck if turned by hand.  It clicked while in the axle.  Longfields solved that problem :)
