JAK's 1980 truck build

Here is my build thread.  (post a few pic's when I get home tonight)

1980 20R/L43.  I have an L52 that I am going to send to Marlin for an L52HD.  I'm going to go check out a couple 22R's this weekend and hopefully bring 1 home to have machined and rebuilt to replace the 20R (and eventually rebuild the 20R to keep as a spare).  Still up in the air about having dual cases, but more than likely I'll sell few things and just get all this engine/tranny work done (hopefully right the 1st time) and be done with it.

I won't be towing or doing any heavy work with the truck, just wheeling and driving her to go wheeling.  I been reading up on a couple of 1st Gen builds and I have already picked up alot of info on this board, so thank you so far. 

Any advice and constructive criticism is always welcome, as well as cheer and jeers.

i recomend gear ruduction of some kind, either lower tcase gears, dual cases, or both.

the world off road is much more happy with them, probably the single best mod you can do, that or lockers

dude,  put  your 20R head  on a  early 22R block,  basically  all you need  from the  22 is the block,  everything else  use the 20R

except  the  rocker arms  and  cover   use the 22R   one

Found a great looking 22R from an 81 today.  pulled the pulled the block, valve cover and carb, sunvisors, wiper arms and the motor mounts.

:psss: The wife doesn't know about the block, and she's already upset about having this rig in the backyard....  :laugh:

:crossed: Hopefully the block checks out good, she looks good.  And I'll be putting together a 20/22R.

Just mate the 2 together?  I thought that I had to upgrade the camshaft, and swap out the 22R valves to the 20R head, port/polish the head, bore the block and bigger pistons...etc...etc... :conf:

If you are wanting all the power avalible fron the 20 head on a 22r block then yes do all these things. If your just in for a little gain then just mate the tw0 together.

I dropped the block & head with the machinist yesterday.  Now I'm ordering up engine kit and camshaft for the rebuild and LCE recommended this camshaft "20R/22R EFI Pro/Street Performer Camshaft - Offset" (part# 1022024) with 455 lift.  According to the tech this provides more bottom end torque with the offset for rock crawlers.

I read hear on Glenn's build not to go over 440 lift without notching the pistons (Glenn if you read this please share the first hand experience). 

Does the offset of the camshaft LCE recommended prevent the need to notch the pistons? OR will notching still be required?

Block bored out .020 over.

Question to you HYBRID guys.....Does the head need to be fitted with oversized valves or should stock be fine?
