91 Yota Truck 4 cyl Axle Strength
« on: Apr 26, 2007, 03:21:28 AM »
I'm lookin to swap my rear axle on my jeep on the cheap and found a 91 yota truck rear that is from a 4 cyl and already has 4.56's for $275. How does the and axle from a 4cyl compare to the 6 cyl, i know there is a difference in the number of spider gears;should i wait to find one from a 6 cyl?  I read that all rear yota axles 30 spline is this true? Last question could this axle handle 37's with longfields?

Thanks for your input

for one 275 is $ for a yot rear.
people run 42" with stock inners in the rear.
and what kinda jeep you got, i wouldn't bother trying to find a 6cyl for a jeep because it cant be much heavier then a yot if it even is heavier

the axle itself  is as strong  as a Dana44,    you  wont  ever  need to worry about breaking a rear shaft
:psss:  Longfeilds  go  in the front axle :shhh:

the  only difference  in the 4 cyl toy  and 6cyl toy axle is the 3rd member,
ive seen stock yota rear axles  stand up to 40's with  200:1 gearing  and  not brake  after being beaten HARD

if i was you i'd   find a wagonneer  front  so  you'd have 6 lugs  on both axles

i have a 2wd  truck  with 5 lug  shafts  in the rear i would have to make sure they were the same , i know this particular  2wd  has a 8 inch 3rd  which is rare,   if  the shafts are the same   you could  run the 91 toy  axle  with  my 5 lug shafts  and keep your jeep wheels

I appreciate yalls replies. Thanks for pointing out me being a dumb#$# talking about longfields for the rear now i wont have to make that mistake again.  I actually figured that seeing they didnt offer anything but innershafts and birfs but i figure id ask anyways.  The axle would be going under a TJ.  Should I be able to find a rear with 4.56's for cheaper than $275?

Thanks

www.car-part.com
Just checked.  search for a 96 4runner rear axle.  It will bring up all the compatable vehicles and years.  Make sure to call to verify the listing is correct.  Check if the locking solenoid is included.  they sell them separately sometimes.

$500 for a complete 4runner rear axle, 6 cyl center, electric locker.  That's how I got both my lockers.  I'm sure one without the locker would be even cheaper.  It put up with a week of moab on 39s.  Why waste money on a 4 cyl when your gonna want the 6 cyl later.
Bring on EJS
