TacoRunner thats some badass fab.

Now I know this site is totally different than what you guys normally look at, but give it a chance. These guys build some badass link setups, and they're super pivots arent that expensive. They build them in 2x2 heavy wall, 1.5" round or even 2" round if you want it.

Its for little trucks like what I do, but its way overkill for what we use them for. Lol.

Jason and the guys at Suicide Doors are awesome. And they're fast to ship. They're half way across the states, and I usually get my parts within 2-3 days.

Because I made a comment about the panhard bar being the most important link on a front suspension I'm making this comment now.

I was wrong, ever since I installed my ORS 3 link on the front end I have been plagued with instability, wondering and a sensation that resembles bump steer, but really isn't. After many months of testing and trouble shooting I was left at a dead end with no one left help because no one knew what I was talking about. The only way I can describe it is, my 4Runner had a similar road response to that of a lifted TJ. A bobble head effect. It did not track straight the vehicle swayed from left to right at the smallest change in the road. (No I was not turning, sway bar did nothing.) I was wanting to go back to a leaf sprung suspension.

But after many, many, many hours of months of research, questions and study I was still unable to find the answer. I called many suspension experts and EVERYONE said the same thing. (Whats your camber at?) Well it was not the camber. (Maybe I did a bad job of describing the problem, i dint know) I looked at many different kits on the market and found one common thread that they shared and I did not. There 3 links (not the panhard bar) made a triangle at some point inside the body of the truck. An instant center its called. Now i knew about instant centers by reading engineering books, but none of them gave me any insight as to what or how a truck would feel if your links were not right.

Finally I called a shop that I knew, knew something about links. (Yes I had called them about this problem earlier) But now I told them that my two links met somewhere about 8' off the ground and 5' behind the truck. They told me, YEH YOUR sH!@ ALL F^%ked up. So I called ORS and told them what I had found. After about an hour of phone discussion I found that I have installed the lower links about 1" to high on the axle which threw my instant center way off. I have since fixed the problem by raising the upper axle side mount about 3"s. Now the truck drives great. If you have a diamond axle, please pay careful attention to your triangulation.

Why did I raise the upper link axle mount rather than move the lower links that were installed wrong down an inch. Well if you have seen the amount of weld thats on the lower links, you would know that raising the one was easier the lowering the two. Plus my bump stops were set and to move the lower links would mean to change the location of the bump stops or move the shocks so that the bump stop stayed the same.(ORS bump stops are located on the frame and intersect the lower links at max compression.)

So my earlier statement about the other links (the two lower and one upper) not being as important as the panhard is totally false.

Good info.

The links I build on the front I install the axle mount 1/2" lower than center.

So does anyone know where there is a write up on the shaffers kit!? I'm just kind of looking for a conmparision between shaffers and ORS. Thanks!

Ok here is a pic of the new link mount i built the other weekend. Had I not screwed up the lower links I would not of had to build this one. It was a long 12hours under the truck to disassemble everything cut the old one off build a new one and make sure that it didn't interfer with anything else, and put it all back together and test drive it.
