I apologize if this information is already out there- I did do a search but couldn't find what I need to know.
I have a 94 4Runner w/ the 3.slow, R150F tranny and the good ole chain driven transfer case. In an effort to keep costs down, I found an R151 tranny and mated 23 spline transfer case at a local salvage yard for around $750 for the pair.
What is involved in swapping out my current drivetrain with this combo as opposed to...not. By not, I mean rebuilding my R150 w/ 151 gears, getting the adaptor plate and a gear driven turbo case or a 23 spline input shaft and a rf1a case.
Obviously the whole point of this swap is to have a lower 1st gear, but mainly to have the ability to get a lower transfer case gearing.
I know I need to do more homework on this before beginning, thus my questions here.
The R151 tranny will bolt up to the R150 bellhousing I have now, no?
This means I won't need the V6 adaptor plate because the R151 is already bolted up to the transfer case.
This would mean that I can just bolt up the entire assembly to the current bellhousing, right?
Will the driveshafts need to be altered in any way?
What other snags will I encounter? Speedometer issues, mounting problems, etc?
I sincerely apologize for all of the questions.
I appreciate any and all info. that I receive and please try not to flame me too hard.
