"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

Rhino Line is on my "Want List" but I will have to have it professionally done, I don't have the patience for prep work! I also plan a flatbed.

you guys midgets or something?  :hahaha:

seriously, how tall are you/how much headroom do you have?
It looks like you raised the level of the seat up pretty high?  :dunno:

I'm starting to look for some buckets so I can get a 5 point, but I'm 6'6" so I need the seats mounted pretty dang low :gap:

Looks good!

I'm not a midget, I'm 5'7'' and 3/4! My 17 yr old son is 6'1''. You can see out over the hood real nice. It gives the illusion the truck was raised more. Head room is a little tight but I guess I'm done growing.

I think I have decided to keep the bed, but bob it off. I have a friend of a friend that does roll cages for stock cars that is going to help me install an internal roll cage. What does every one think - bed or flat bed?

rednk1980

After having a bed then building a flatbed i would rather have a normal bed however the flatbed can take alot more beating then a normal bed.

On another note i have the same APC seats in my truck and have ran them since x-mas. IMO they are the best bang for the buck, i love mine and once they break in a little they form to your body. Really nice seats.

I have just about 90% made up my mind to keep the bed and bob it. I love the seats, they are SUPER comfortable! They look mounted a little high, but it gives great vision out across the hood and through the rear view mirror.

Why no internal? That was what I'm thinking of doing next. That and order new rear springs-move existing rears to front-new rears on rear-Hy-Steer-square drive shaft. How's that sound? I'm getting close to sure on leaving the bed and bobing.

with an internal cage, you lose headroom, and visibility.  sitting so high in those seats, I imagine that you'll be looking right at the bar that goes across the top of the windshield.  Everything else sounds good, square tube d-shafts work great, and are strong, but don't plan on going to fast with them.  Get them up to speed (in most cases) and you'll rattle your teeth out!  :hahaha:

It's not an every day driver, just fun climbs and crawls. I got a trailor to haul it back and forth so I don't have to sweat playing too hard.

Redbeard3261

My buddy will start on my roll cage next Monday (April 9,2007) can't wait. They way we drew it out it should look awesome! I'll post lots of pics as we put it in.

Redbeard3261

truck at buddies getting cage measurements to start building it. Next week gonna order Marlin cross over steer and new rear springs for front, hopefully it won't be too big of a project to install HY-STEER. Anybody know of any threads from other projects where this was done?

Redbeard3261

Here's pics of the internal cage underway.

Here are more pics, slow going as he does it when he is not at full time job and taking care of other racecar cages.  :flamer:

rednk1980

Thats the first time ive seen a halo cage done interanlly, most people run pillar type cages internally it'll take up more room done this way, looks good though.

Thats the stock car builder coming out. This way can be super strong if you take sheet metal and tie the tubing into the roofline and a pillars. But not necasary for a wheeler. Any rollover is going to be fairly slow compared to 60+ a stock car would be doing.
