I bought a 91 runner rear axle complete v-6 and also got a 89 pick up rear axle complete and was wondering if I should put the v-6 third in the 89 axle? both axle's for $150 + another 88 housing! I heard you can but not sure why. Do people do this?  :dunno:

there is nothing wrong with upgrading, but you need to make sure the gearing is the same

are they stronger? would it be better to put in the front or rear. you can get the same gears for a v-6 and a 4cyl third right?

-I don't know what you mean by inners(Axle shafts )?, but the v6 third is stronger than the 4cyl.
-You can get the same gears as the 4cyl.
-I would put it in the rear, since that is where there is the most stress.

yes the rear axle shafts are the same for both rear axles you have, both are the wider version and both are 30 splined axleshafts

cool good to know  . say you wanted to link your truck, can you use the coil axle to do that? I have a lot of people say I should use the coil axle to link the rear but I just want to run leaves!

Yeah you can, but you will still be cutting off brackets and :pokinit: that you dont need, or that are in the wrong place for what you are building, so either axle would work just fine.

that is what I thought and didn't want to do. I am running leaves anyway, I was just curious is to why people thought it could be done being stock. I thought you had to cut :pokinit: off but... oh do you now how much 86+ axle housing's go for?

they go for whatever someone is willing to pay for them

that said, they usually get a decent price as they are very desirable, they have larger brakes and are wider than the older trucks
