The Beast Returns.
« on: Mar 08, 2007, 01:17:06 AM »
You may remember my thread from a ways back., it was sort of rant like so i decided to delete it and start a new one.  and now that most of the research is done and the parts are in, i can breath a bit and tell you guys and gals whats up with the project.

The Recap:

The truck im working with is my 99 ext. cab tacoma. i had built it up with 2.5 suspension (coil spacers and leafs) and a 3 inch body lift to fit a set of 305/70 R16 BFG m/t's. While this worked well enough for awile, i felt as though my agressive driving style was indeed beginning to take its toll on the truck. And one day i took it out to the sandpit for a little afternoon wheeling and i heard a loud 'Ping' type sound. At the time i had no idea, but my frame was severely rotted throughout the midsection and rear. the frame has been broken now for about 9 months.

I located a used frame of the same type for about 1k. and decided to have it reinforced and the rear section fully boxed. the front is being taken care of with a drivers side drop 64 inch diamond axle in toy configuration with an arb, Yukon 5.29's, and longfield 30's. For the rear i am going to keep the original Elock rear, install yukon 5.29s and some 2 inch wheelspacers. i am going to be running either 14 or 12 inch Bilstein 7100 series shocks front and rear, chevys in the rear, and 44044's in the front.  i am shooting for about 5.5 inches and am planning to run 36x14.5 Radial TSL's. once the bank fills up again im going to replace the rear with a 63 inch full float diamond axle.

The BFG's were taken off and the truck was parked.
It hasnt really moved yet. It is being put on a trailer
to have towed to the shop sometime mid nextweek.

The Reinforcments on the frame are 1/8 inch steelplate.
The front and rear are not finished yet because of suspsension setup
that has to be done with the truck assembled.
Underneath the frame you can see most of the boxes of parts.

Current considerations:
  • Amount of fender trimming that will be required to fit a tire larger then 36x14.5
  • Engine performance. cams and SC?

within the next few weeks more pictures should be coming. i will try to keep this thread as best updated as i can, but i was just accepted to the Wyotech Blairsville campus in Pennsylvania and need to buckle down and finish my schoolwork so i will be busy.

Much of the framework and assembly is being done by XTC in Framingham, Ma. they have done a great job so far and i would recommend them to anybody.

Good old new england weather.  the frame rotting was partly myfault, i did all of this mudding and never thought to clean out my frame, so it rotted from the inside out. i'll never do that again, one damn expensive mistake.
