could i convert a 2x4 to a 4x4?

as i understand it autos suck a lot of power from the engine, not sure if it's true but makes sense. plus manuels are much more fun to drive

i thought you had to change the oil pan unless running hysteer with lift because otherwise the clearance isnt in the right place.... thats what i was told way back when... and the reason i got an oil pan to put my 22r 2wd engine into my 4x4

i don't know, mine was out of a 92 2wd and i didn't change the oil pan.  it clears the highsteer but is a little close to the ram.

I told you that, jim.  this is what happens when you don't pay attention.  I said, with stock springs, you can't run the 2wd pan.  when the suspension compresses, the sump will smack the housing.  I put a hole in a 2wd pan in a 4wd truck with NO LIFT driving on the street.  Lifted, however, like Brads truck, there is clearance to make it work.

don't think i would ever run an auto behind a 4 banger, there just isn't enough engine for it

I ran one in my 4Runner it wasn't that bad,  I even used to tow an 18' travel trailer with it.






















Though it was a turbo.

i might have to do some custom mods to mine now since my ram sits right there. look like it will hit it by 1/2 inch.  i will take a hammer to it tomarrow lol.

I sure did notice until it hit 2500 rpm then my turbo kicked in and....

You can't easily put your duals behind the 2wd tranny, so plan to re-use your 4wd tranny or grab another one.

It's possible, but not as economical, to run duals behind an A340H auto tranny.  All the "easy" Marlin parts are designed to put your duals behind a 4wd 4cyl 4/5-speed manual tranny.
